  • I rewrote it for accuracy:

There's something of a paradox that has defined my experience with artificial intelligence in this particular moment. It's clear we're witnessing the advent of a wilfully stupid fart machine, one that could transform the atmosphere into farts and the way we think about farts and creating farts and the value of human farts itself. At the same time, I can't for the life of me figure out why I'd want to sit in a room filled with my own farts.

So I wanted to understand what I'm missing and get some tips for how I could incorporate farts better into my life right now. And Eating Mollusks is the perfect guide: He's a pro-fartor at the Fartin' School at the University of Farts

  • Yeah an inner mental process that has been replicated - well to a (very) limited degree.

Given that you refuse to provide a definition of creativity, this is not something that you (specifically you, not the generic) are allowed to believe.

My argument is that this is exactly what is so offensive to people.

Your argument is wrong. People who are “offended” by AI don’t believe that AI is doing anything that humans are doing beyond formulaic bullshit and plagiarism.

The painful realization or disillusionment that one of the things we held most special about being human, turns out is not so special after all.

If you or a loved one has experienced said painful disillusionment, my advice would be to go outside, touch grass, i.e. experience what it means to be human, because your conception of such is lacking.

I never would have predicted that before GPT-3. I look at movies or stories with a character that is an artistic archetype differently now.

You never saw a robot in fiction, specifically the many robots that are characterised to be all but human? The ones designed to be mirrors to humanity so that we can gain perspective on exactly what makes us human? Roy Batty? Data? Bender Bending Rodriguez?

    Meat good! Silicon bad!

They label those packets specifically “do not eat”, I guess you had to learn the hard way.

  • They had to get high from their own supply. I can’t see this boding well for them.

We all know how this goes: you gotta make the money from GPUs first. Then when you get the money, you get to drain the power grids. Then when you get the power, then you get the women with incorrect appendages.

Of course, after all that, you die in a hail of bullets and land in the shadow of a monument to your own hubris.

  • I didn't say: "X mod has gone alt-right! This must be a conspiracy! The moon isn't real!"

I said: "I guess this mod has gone alt-right?"

Seeing and mentioning changes is worth mentioning, even if those changes are unrelated. That's just... basic observation.

Of course, if you want to conspiratorially cast aspersions on everything I'm saying, that's fine. I am going to disengage starting... now.

  • Throwing in that comment about Son_of_Sophroniscus was pretty out there!

It seemed relevant to the discussion to look at the moderator list in case there was any information. In this case, the information seemed to be a dead end, which is why I didn't try to speculate beyond a statement of fact.

But instead we’ve got that, people talking about a “weird/bad vibe”, reading tea leaves all over the shop…

People are allowed to comment on the vibe. I think it is completely fair to express frustration at the reopening for the reasons stated in other parts of this thread.

But even in just your own case, it seems like the opposite of not jumping to conclusions to throw in references to old mods going alt right that bear absolutely zero relationship to any of the handful of posts on the “resurrected” sub

I can't believe I have to explain this very ordinary attempt of trying to see what's going on:

    1. the status quo changes (r/sneerclub comes back online)
    2. I look for answers (in this case, I ask here for information, and look around the subreddit for information)
    3. I resist the urge to jump to the easy/obvious answer, and share what little information I had here

Then, as you pointed out in your other comments, it was the obvious answer, which I will happily accept as there is proof.

  • Yo dawg, slow your roll. Yes, that is the easy explanation. I just wanted more information before jumping to any conclusions. Not all of us (read: I) were deeply familiar with the moderator dynamics nor had a reason to be.

Again either way I’ve made my choice to be here, so to me, it doesn’t really matter what’s going on beyond my own curiosity.

  • I am not much of a Reddit muckraker. I checked out the posts from the mods I didn't recognise. The longtime mod Son_of_Sophroniscus appears to now be alt-right? Other than that, I still can't make heads or tails of any of it.
