  • I’m very keen to see this get battle tested in reviewers hands, and especially seeing what developers can make this thing do. The price is very high, but if it can live up to its claim of supporting AR desktops from a MacBook, I could see businesses and on-the-go freelancers getting some great use out of it where space may be limited.

  • I’ve just built my first NAS. I went very overkill for my needs, so bought 5x8TB drives, 32GB of RAM, a Ryzen 5600G, and 1TB of NVMe SSD storage to compliment my HDD space. I’ve installed TrueNAS and have plugged the HDDs into a RAID-Z2 config, yielding about 20TB of usable space, with the 1TB SSD being a separate pool for anything that can benefit from faster IO, which have generally been applications / VMs. Currently using it as a network drive for all my data, and am using BorgBackup to ensure everything’s backed up. At some point I’d like to get a remote BorgBackup repository going, but I’ve not gotten around to it yet.

I’m also using it to host a VM for my web dev projects I can access via RDP and Tailscale, and have started installing PhotoPrism for my photos, SyncThing for my dev projects (so I can continue coding across my PC and laptop seamlessly), and eventually I’d like to get Plex / Jellyfin going, though I already have a setup going via WhatBox.

  • I’ve been making my way through the STEINS;GATE 0 visual novel, and I’ve been having a great time. It’s effectively replaced watching TV/anime for me; I turn on my nvidia shield, stream the game, and off I go.

  • I tried getting into Talos, but I was stubborn and wanted to complete all the hard puzzles as I went along. Some of those puzzles are crazy, I ended up getting frustrated and out down the game.

I really should get back into it; I hear there’s a lot of secrets in the game that you can find if you pay attention to what’s going on and read everything.

  • I haven’t really played any of them, but I did put a little time into Kingdom Hearts Unchained X. It definitely felt like a grind, and the follow up (Dark Road) having an auto battler setting was silly imo. Not really a fan of the genre, but I do hear good things about Genshin.

  • I gave Rust a shot as part of my move away from Electron and into Tauri. Man, the learning curve is brutal; the language and syntax isn't too bad honestly, but the borrow checker? Ugh, it's like my mum complaining at me back when I was a kid to clean my room all the damn time.

It gets easier as you stumble and look up stack overflow posts over and over, but it's definitely a challenge. That being said, if you stick with it, Rust almost guarantees that your app will never crash, so I'm a big fan.

  • I know nothing about the codebase, but being a developer myself, I’m curious to hear how complex you’d think the task would be, and how much domain knowledge of the fediverse / activity pub would be required.

  • I quite enjoy VR experiences, and I went from owning an Oculus Rift 2 right around the launch of Half Life Alyx, to now owning a Quest 2. Honestly I very rarely play it these days, but for a while my mates and I would hang out and play mini golf or some other multiplayer games. Being physically present and being able to wave and make motion gestures made it feel more real.

The group’s split up now, and I don’t have much of an urge to play VR myself. Beat saber is cool and all, but making room to play in my small apartment is definitely a pain when I could just sit down and play something on my PC.
