  • I'm very much aware of that, I have programmed stuff in rust as well, but claiming that it's secure and "better" because it's rust is just pr, believe me, I can write some really sihtty rust code.

I'm no evangelist for PHP, but I say use the tool that you know, when I make a new program I'm going to do it in nim, because it's the langauge that I have the most fun working with. It has mostly the same pros as rust, just with a lot nicer syntax and it's generally more flexible.

No shade on people liking rust, but this constant parroting of the same point by people who probably never even used the langauge is getting kind of old.

  • No it's something used to start makinga discussion sour, you put words in my mouth that I never said, it's not that you used the wrong word, you decided you didn't like what I said and wanted to shut me down, or should we say... censor my opinion.

  • There are places where they can, or else I would have not known about it, and I do, so there is obviously something. I also know about things that happen in china that that government doesn't want us to know, because people I have interacted with who are from there have been sharing stuff.

I don't know where you get this "hate" from, there is no reason to put words in my mouth as I never said I hate it, I just disagree that it's a good idea. But that you are already grabbing for disingenous tactics like that really tells me enough about you, so that's the end of the discussion for me.

  • There is a huge difference between moderation of posts on a platform and an authoritarian regime.... That's a long stretch, having a platform deleting something you posted that doesn't fit in, or is hatefull is something completely different from having an authoritarian regime going against you, if you have an authoritan regime then having something on a blockchain that can't be deleted is an extremely bad idea as well, that's another problem with that that I didn't see before, so thanks for that at least.

  • The problem is that crypto is unregulated, the regulations are there for a reason, to stop things like ponzischemes and all the other things that already has happened that fucked people over. Maybe if they got regulated in some way, so that those things couldn't happen easily, as it is now, I would say no.

  • Which programming languages do you use?
  • I'm mostly a hobby programmer, and I mostly use nim for most of the stuff I do, it just works very well with how I think and things just work, which I'm really happy about. The type system is really nice, with the right kinds of granularity for things that I want to do.

For now I'm mostly focused on learning the langauge that I use, and I have been playing around with a lot of different stuff, maybe some kind of forth would be nice to do some real down to the metal stuff, but I very seldomly have to do that. I did play around with factor for a long time, and it's a very interesting language, it just never really felt comfortable for me, more like a fun puzzle game in a way.

  • Well, yeah, you're not wrong :) That's a perspective I didn't look at it from, yeah, the whole american corporation thing of reddit is also one that I don't like much either :)

  • Well that being said I think for many of us being connected to and associated with people that spread obvious lies does not feel great. Like genocide denial, and general tankie-isms, for me personally at least someone that denies that fascist governments like Russia and China is something that is bad for us all, and especially for the Russian and Chinese people feels awfully close to hate speech to me at least. And I'm someone pretty much on the left fringe, I have no problem with communists, the problems are when they tip over into supporting Authocratic or Fascistic governments. And we're already being connected to it by many people off site as long as we don't defederate.

Just figured out the developer behind the jerboa application also is a genocide denier, it feels kind of really bad, I don't know it makes me feel really conflicted.

  • Well, that kind of sounds like the normal rust propaganda, don't get me wrong, I do think the language is decent, it's just tiring to see so many people just buying into and parroting some weird claims like "it's rust, so it's secure"
