  • Double checked to make sure I wasn't making a fool of myself, and yeah, you're actually completely correct.

Chief Justice presides over the hearing and the Senate votes on it. The House of Representatives is who presents articles of impeachment and if they reach a simple majority, then bam, you're impeached right then and there. But a successful impeachment then goes to Senate to vote whether the official in question is guilty and should be removed from office.

Interestingly, according to this gov page I'm pulling the info from (which may or may not be accurate anymore these days, who knows) a total of 21 successful impeachments have been run in American history. Of those impeached, only 8 officials have been found guilty by the Senate and removed from office. All 8 of them were federal judges. 3 presidents have been impeached, but none were removed from office - Nixon isn't on this list because he resigned and ran away once the impeachment process began but before it could finish. DJT is the only president in American history to manage to be impeached twice.

Anyway, point being, if the president has either the Senate or the Supreme Court Chief Justice in his pockets, he's effectively immune to impeachment. With both in his pockets he's so immune to it that it becomes a joke to him. You can impeach him as many times as you want all day long until the cows come home, but if no one in the Senate ever votes to convict then it means nothing more than a nasty footnote on his page in the history books. Or more likely these days it means you'll be picked up off the streets by the Gestapo and the impeachment will be conveniently left out of historical records.

  • Trump has been successfully impeached twice. Impeachment just doesn't mean "removed from office" like everyone thought it did. Unfortunately the Supreme Court is who makes the decision about whether an impeached president is removed from office or not.

  • These are real events that happen during a game of Caves of Qud

  • I used to do the same but load everyone down with remote mines. The AI knows how to chuck a mine but it does not know how to detonate it.

So once one of the player characters finally detonated a mine somewhere, the explosion chain reaction would get kills clear across the entire map.

  • Bad optics, at that. Hegseth just created the single largest opsec failure that the US has seen in over a century and used it to complain to career military generals that they look too woke.

If literally any other man tried this at any other time in American history he'd be in front of a court martial so fast your head would spin.

Get comfy, this is several hours worth of very top-shelf Star Wars parody. Auralnauts gives Spaceballs a run for its money as the premiere SW parody in my opinion.

  • Disclaimer: I love Dark Souls 2, and that's actually why I'm using it for this example. I think this applies to most of the Souls games though.

I play through DS2 a lot. Probably once a year these days, I've done over a dozen full runs of the game.

Almost no matter what build I'm building, I'm 2/3 of the way through the game (or farther, sometimes, depending on if I want DLC items) before my build is "built". Part of the fun of the game to me is building up that build piece by piece, but the fact remains, if I'm building a hexer (for instance), I'm going to be running it as a sorceror with a bad stat spread for 10 hours before it fleshes out. You'll need to go into NG+ in order to properly run a certain build through the whole game.

Elden Ring neatly sidesteps this issue, at the cost of making 2/3 of the game world useless to you on repeat playthroughs. You can just go pick up everything on your shopping list in 2-3 hours and then your path forward from there is clear.

I'm honestly not sure which of these is the better option, and I both like and dislike both options for different reasons.

  • It's planned to siphon money from the stock market

  • Agree. I learned a lot of things in college and most of them were not learned in the classroom. The debt it saddled me with was rough, but it was worth my personal growth.

  • Do you want to go to a full war with Russia

Yes. Fascism must be stamped out internationally, and they're in hilariously bad condition after sending millions of soldiers to die in Ukraine. They lose an average estimated 5,800 more soldiers per month. This has been going on for years. Now (or soon) is definitively the best time to strike back and this opportunity will not arise again.

Would you do the same for Palestine which is in an even more dire situation then Ukraine

Yes. Fascism must be stamped out internationally. This one might actually be a fight, but the only reason it would be one is because of the massive amount of funding and arming that we did for Israel.

  • Yep. Republicans have the rabid following that they do because they accomplish tasks. Horrible, fucked up, stupid tasks that should never have even been tabled for discussion, but they get them done. 99% of Democrat messaging my entire lifetime has been "We're gonna do [X]! Oh, wait, no, we can't do [X] because we don't have a supermajority. Shucks. Well, we'll surely get 'em next time if you just vote for me again!" and people are, understandably, getting fucking tired of that. Especially when these same Dem voters watch every single conservative election cycle jam through abject bullshit without pushback. If they can get these things done then why can't you? Why can Trump loot my 401k and Medicaid directly into his own pockets but Obama couldn't enact universal health care? Why do we only ever ratchet toward the right?

Democrats have been chasing the mythical "centrist swing voter" for decades while voters have increasingly polarized into left vs right and the centrists have evaporated. Anyone who remains a centrist, now, isn't even going to go vote because politics clearly do not play any part in their lives.

We now have the additional problem of the rabid MAGA crowd being so vehemently anti-Democrat that not only would they never vote blue no matter what they were promised, they're statistically likely to go make attempts on the lives of Democratic officials or those running for office. So anyone who wants to run as a Democrat with an actual progressive platform are putting double the number of targets on themselves.

I think the only real way forward is a third party, one that can sidestep our red vs blue team sports mentality and say look, things are pretty bad for everyone right now. You don't have to vote for a Democrat or a Republican to make things better. You can come vote for us instead, we'll get this train back on track and you don't have to go tell the boys that you voted for a Democrat

...But then our problem becomes making this third party actually electable, which has historically been a huge problem in America.

  • Am I the only person who remembers Trump all but admitting on national television that Musk rigged the voting machines in his favor?

And then all the highly irregular ballots that appeared that are, and I quote, "consistent with vote manipulation" as per the neutral third party assigned to investigate?

And then nobody investigated it at all because we "couldn't be taken seriously about it" because of the huge Stop The Steal right wing uproar the prior election.

Don't trust those reported numbers, they are almost certainly fabricated.
