Pro-Russian politician wins Slovakia's parliamentary election
  • Not a supporter of the war but just noticed that western media is covering this with a sprinkling of their own propaganda. Just read telegraph's piece on this. They seem to think that nato's expansion is normal and just fine. And they also seem to call the presence of Nazi groups in Ukraine Russian propaganda.

There is clear propaganda war going on on both sides. Anti nato doesn't neccesarily mean pro russia. A lot of western people don't seem to be able to wrap their heads around this.

  • Boost for Lemmy is now live
  • Just got it! Really happy that the developer made it. For some reason boost on reddit still works though.

It was nice to switch over to my preferred view that I have been using for years now.

  • Google Podcasts to shut down in 2024 with listeners migrated to YouTube Music
  • Mind you I love pocket casts but I always have had the need to install another podcast app such as Google podcasts, castbox or fountain to have a search that works beyond the show name at the level of episode names.

Sometimes I love listening to various podcasts about a topic or I'm just curious and use it like an user uses youtube search.

  • I've been blocking ads for so long that actually seeing them feels perverse
  • When not rooted I have two main free solutions.

You can use nextdns on your home network. They have around 200,000k free requests. For 2 people it seems to work out to around 20 days of ad blocks. This particularly helps with the ads on the TV as well.

Otherwise you have the options to use Firefox with extensions or Brave without (I know it's not popular around here). You can also use ReVanced for youtube blocks.

For most usage that free combination suffices for me.

  • How many of you are using ChatGpt to help you with your work, and not telling your boss/co-workers?
  • Used in small doses to generate text with some degree of precision is helpful. I do find it to be a good way to cut out boring email writing. But I would recommend it more as a text generation tool than a fact generation tool. With the right expectations and work flow it fits right in. And no I don't consider it plagiarism if the client's demand is boring.

  • "I love Android, but I prefer it more on tablets than phones" - Android Authority
  • Only tablet I ever bought was a nexus 7 back in the day when phones were smaller. I don't think I'd buy a tablet ever again. For reading fiction I still prefer e ink stuff like kindle. For everyday phone is fine now. And well for everything else a laptop does it's work. My tablet has been lying around for years without being used. The form factor doesn't seem very conducive to me for anything. Also watching movies is simply easier on a laptop cuz I don't have to think about holding up or balancing the screen.

  • Russian parliament bans gender reassignment surgery for trans people
  • There is no analogical reasoning between germ theory and psychiatry. Psychiatry chooses to individualize a problem in however coded manners at the expense of the social. I am honestly quite astounded by the response that transitioning is the only way to be trans nowadays. This echoes the overall codification of queer behaviour the world over where the normative western queer body language now dominated. If you don't behave or are like them you are not queer.
