Surprising how such harsh and atonal sounds can be so melodic. This is the sign of someone who's been doing this for a long time. (since 2005 apparently)
That's a great comparison. Another point of reference is John Carpenter's "The Thing" -- there's a scene in Sinners that echoes it. (at least I think so... when I saw The Thing as a kid it freaked me out so much I haven't been able to watch it again.)
Yeah that's a good point, there definitely was a first half vs second half. And the action wasn't really "Marvel style". But Coogler and Jordan know how to make Marvel-style movies and I don't think that was the goal here. When I watch it again I'm gonna look more closely at the action.
OP is clearly trolling, but this is the most balanced take on the article.
Reflect on yourself first
Agreed. The article mentioned a "Biblical perspective", and I vaguely remember something about Jesus saying if your eye offends you pluck it out. He didn't actually make his disciples pluck out their eyes tho, I think he was saying if there's a problem it's with the viewer, not the observed.
aw yeah... I listened to songs 8 and 9 then jumped to song 1 and everything was mellow and I was in the kitchen with it playing through an earbud when that song 2 came on. It was definitely pretty energizing.
Admittedly that's subjective, but personally I thought the story and pacing were near-perfect. When I saw the previews I was wondering if it'd just be two movies poorly grafted together, but no, ultimately it all fit together really well. I'm still "processing" tho, might need to see it again to really think about it.
Nice find. The ads from the VHS rip (and a primitive 3D graphics logo!) at the beginning are fun, but if you want to skip them the movie starts here: https://youtu.be/kS-RzrlKZJo?t=407
e: just finished watching it. great movie, I'd read some Clive Barker as a kid but for some reason hadn't seen this film.
True story: I've been having problems with my desk chair, and right after the movie was over I turned it over to try to fix with it. I'd added a nut-and-bolt but I was trying to replace it with a better one, and the MFer just wasn't fitting, even though I was straining and trying to get it to line up. Then suddenly it CLICKed and the bolt went in! But just then this reddish/brownish fluid dropped out of nowhere! And I was like OH SHIT ITS THE CENOBITES!!! But nah, it was just some lubricant I'd added a little while ago.
Best vampire movie I've ever seen. No direct references to Dracula, it builds a mythos based on the 1930s Mississippi Delta, specifically jukes and the delta blues. You don't have to know anything about that tho, the first half of the movie sets the scene and makes the appearance of the vampires seem inevitable. There's an important mid-credits scene and a less consequential end-credit scene.
I caught it at my cousin's place yesterday, since theaters are way too expensive these days. If you're into vampire movies, it's definitely worth watching at some point, especially as it hits more streaming services and the price comes down.
Oh well, I guess I’m stuck reading a book series intended for 12-year olds.
Is there any foreign language you kinda learned (in school maybe) and want to get better at? Try re-reading in that language, it's a great way to practice. Apparently the books have been translated into 20 different languaes.
Maybe it's bc I've been doing a lot of proofreading recently, but the first thing I noticed was reference to "the Battle of Dover Straight" instead of Strait.
Remember when we were talking about Jeff Mills a couple weeks ago? That's exactly what made/makes him such an outstanding techno DJ. Not the music he composed, but that he'd only play a minute or so of each song before mixing in another.
A couple things I like about these photos. These are "real people", not heavily-filtered Insta influencer wannabes trolling for followers. These are people of various ages and genders and styles.
Like, look at this guy. Is he from Lord of the Rings? If he isn't, then Tolkien was quite remiss in neglecting him.
I like this kid's outfit bc you can just tell she's gonna show this photo to her grandma next week and they'll bond over it.
This one is deceptively simple, there are some great patterns in the shoulder spikes, the metal snakes in the headpiece, and the eye decoration.
I hear ya. I especially gotta take a look at Iola Velegem's archive of photos, especially for the Victorian period-era clothes, I'm trying to come up with some businesslike outfits in case I need to go back in the office a lot.
In the 1700s Europe, rich folks would hire Garden Hermits. So your proposal has some precedent.
