  • It speaks to the quality of the party organizers.

The Conservatives are pumping out mini documentaries featuring Poilievre, but the other parties seem to be trapped in the 1980s. They just contact their supporters. It's like they don't know how to get elected.

There's no race, at least partially because the other parties aren't really running.

  • Apparently CRA will still apply the proposed change. Even Poilievre hasn't committed to cancelling it:

Trudeau’s main political rival, Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre, has said he would review the tax hike if elected, but hasn’t committed to scrapping the measure if it became law. The Conservatives are about 20 points ahead of the Liberals in most polls.

Then again, if they don't reintroduce it to Parliament, I assume CRA will just stop collecting it. And potentially issue refunds. 😂

  • What kind of psychopath chases kids in a truck?

Fildebrandt exited his home and began yelling at the boys, shaking his cane in the air, which the boys came to believe was a rifle.

When they ran because of the perceived threat, Fildebrandt got in his truck and chased the boys through his neighbourhood, eventually using his vehicle to block the path of one of the teens.

One of the boys banged on a neighbour's door and begged for help, telling her he was being chased by someone with a gun.

The kids didn't even do anything to his signs ffs.

  • None of this put a dent in CO2 emissions, because more energy available just means more energy consumed.

I'm my geo, we're lowering GHG emissions and increasing electricity output. That isn't entirely due to renewables, but it's part of the equation. Those renewables were affordable due to feed in tariffs mentioned above.

Without continued advocacy, entrenched interests will reverse those trends. With continued advocacy, we may be able to lower emissions further.

  • When you get to 50, you'll understand.

I'm not the original commenter, but as someone in a similar boat, I'll interpret:

Aging fucking sucks. Seeing doors close as your body switches modes is depressing as hell. Knowing you have another half century left, but it's all gonna be worse is a terrible feeling.

  • Solar, wind, and EVs have become much cheaper after they received significant government incentives. Feed in tariffs started in the 1990s, implemented by Japan, Germany, China, and many other governments decreased the cost of renewables and built industrial capacity.

Governments did that because of significant environmental advocacy from the 1960s onwards.

Advocacy feels like it doesn't work now because there's massive advocacy pushing back against our longterm interests, but it's couched as "industrial interests" so we don't see it.
