  • $7,500 is probably six months rent in most Canadian cities. If they last a few months longer than that, it's probably a win.

I do wonder why they're not made like "strip malls" or designed to connect with an enclosed cavity between.

It's cheap sound proofing, and maybe it's easier to adjust to the site?

  • Will he ever leave office?

He's an old man. Either Americans will get rid of him, or he'll die of old age.

America is rotten to the core.

Is that new? The US has/had many great attributes, but they've never been as good as their PR pretends. Jim Crow, the Trail of Tears, Iraq, Vietnam, the CIA, etc.

Richest country on the planet ... Greedy fucks.

    I can't disagree.

  • Their special status no longer applies

Their special status is money, a productive economy, and a massive military. Trump may damage those attributes, but I suspect the US will generally retain them.

And other countries will line up to get access to that trough. Even if governments don't want to buddy up, the moneyed classes in those countries will agitate to get access to that market.

I expect to see a stronger push away from reliance on the US for...

During COVID we said we were going to start producing our own vaccines, pharmaceuticals, and PPE. We said we would address the crisis in Canadian healthcare. In the three-ish years since the end of lockdowns, we've settled back into our pre-covid rut.

Post-Trump, it will be the same. As long as the US is a huge market, we'll eventually settle back into the NAFTA rut.

  • It looks like an offline tool that reviews existing medical records to find indicators of addiction:

Overall, the AI screener was as effective as provider-only assessments in leading to addiction specialist consultations. However, those who received AI screening were 47% less likely to be readmitted to the hospital within 30 days after initial discharge.

The team calculated that each readmission avoided saved about $6,800 in health care costs during the study period. The findings suggest that investment in AI could help to increase access to addiction treatment, improve efficiencies, and save costs.

  • There's a lot of money to be made by selling stuff to the US. I'll be surprised if Canadian companies and trading agreements didn't revert to their pre-Trump arrangements within a few years of him leaving office.

  • It autorenews and it's relatively expensive.

I wouldn't do that DNA test, because it's really sensitive data.

WikiTree is a free alternative to the genealogical database. The genealogy nerd in my life says that its data is a bit better. Ymmv.

  • Then we should be tracking down and firing everyone involved from all parties?

    Yes.

I’m glad he owned it honestly, it’s more responsibility than I expected to see him take.

Eh. He said he had no idea it happened. And then "reassigned" the guilty parties. After the thing with the ex-cop in Toronto, it looks like Carney needs to improve his handling of personnel issues.

  • It blows my mind that we're denying qualified candidates a career in medicine. We're short 22,000 doctors and 28,000 nurses.

We should have a full court press from the federal and provincial governments to train those professionals. And recognizing foreign credentials (etc).

  • There's a weird omission in that piece: the Liberals and Conservatives have been smearing and misrepresenting each other for decades. From the PC ads (which barely aired) making fun of Chretien's facial paralysis, to the Liberal "they're gonna put soldiers on our streets!" (which were only available online) they've been doing as long as I can remember.

The LPC planting Trump style buttons at a CPC event probably happened after this piece was submitted, but it deserves a mention as well.
