The instance chooser sorts by ping so people can easily find those closest to them. Europeans will tend to have european-hosted instances listed first.

https://piefed.zip/ has the worst ping for me (in New Zealand) so must be in EU somewhere.

Installed qbittorrent and downloaded a few seasons of Linux isos onto a vps. Discovered accessing those files over SSH to be too slow to play them without buffering so installed filebrowser to get them via http which worked well.

It's been a long long time since I used bittorrent and wow it works so much better these days.

IMO the Lemmy scaled sort would be ok if it wasn't as powerful.

Try the scaled sort on PieFed.social, the amplification isn't as strong and I just tweaked it to filter out bot posts.

A few weeks ago there was a federation problem and we didn't have any content coming from lemmy.world for about 12 hours. I didn't notice until we were about 10 hours in because there was enough posts from other instances that it felt pretty much the same.

The only part of the url that actually does anything is p/1385905 which functions the same way piefed.social/post/1385905 does. So that /c/politics bit has no effect on which post is displayed and it could be any string of gibberish. There are communities called 'politics' on many instances and this url scheme doesn't differentiate between them, but I'm ok with that.

You could but it's more work than we can expect most people to do, especially on a mobile device. I'm going to see what I can do from my end to improve the formatting without losing the benefits I was aiming for with the earlier change.

I have removed the @ now, perhaps that'll make it easier for you.
