German government approves law to make legal gender change easier
  • Unfortunately, while it does get rid of some of the hurdles and medicalization of the previous laws, the draft has gotten more and more problematic and honestly frightening over the last few months.

Here's a short rundown of the latest bullshit: https://eldritch.cafe/@amberage/110927864065655730

I'm really hoping at least some of that will be fixed in parliament, but I'm not too confident :/

  • Lenses for a newbie
  • I second having a decent 50mm equivalent lens for starters, they're pretty versitile and compact.

I personally quite like being constrained to one focal length, I feel like it really taught me to be more deliberate about my positioning, framing and composition, but you'll have to figure out whether that's a style of photography you enjoy.

Having a zoom for the flexibility is definitely also nice and fun to try out and invaluable in some settings

In the end, I guess it really comes down to what you end up taking photos of, and which approach is more fun to you.

    Have fun! :)

Unsure how to proceed with exploring my gender identity.
  • I was lucky enough to have an environment (flatmates, close friends) where I felt comfortable just trying around with presentation, names, pronouns, where I also felt safe about them not gossiping about me or anything like that.

And, when trying something new, it's normal to not have it quite figured out and there's going to be things that you're not sure about and that don't stick, but in my experience, there were also some things that I noticed felt great and right and good.

You can start with small things, like nail polish in nb colors or stuff like that :)

Just one last note: I totally get looking up to other nb folk that seem to have it all figured out, but: a) they probably haven't! and b) it's important to think about what you want and feel comfortable with. Making baby steps is fine, figuring out some things you like on other people feel awkward on you is fine!

wishing you all the best in trying stuff out <3

  • Question about hormones
  • especially in the first few months, it can take a bit for the hormone levels to settle in and your body to get used to them.

If you have the option, getting your blood levels checked every few months can be helpful in the beginning to see whether you might need a higher dose to get into the desired ranges, but I feel like in the end, you feeling comfortable with how the levels feel for you and the changes is the most important thing.
