Our tech overlords have ruined the online platforms that Americans depend on. Now, as Donald Trump returns to the White House with Elon Musk in tow, expect the same to happen to our government.

As Andrew Cuomo plots his political comeback, the former New York governor is trying to fight an ethics probe from his last time in office.
A few years ago, Melissa and Chris Bruntlett and their two children moved from Vancouver, Canada, to Delft, a small city in the Netherlands where 80% of journeys are taken by foot, bicycle, or public transit. Their new book, Curbing Traffic, is about what it's like to live in a truly low-car city, a...
I just read this semi-autobiographical Jo Walton novel called Among Others that was written as a love letter to finding books through other books - you get the title of every book the sci-fi obsessed main character reads over the course of like 1979-1980.
The questionable statistic at the heart of the “men don’t read fiction” discourse.
Terminal means fatal, hopefully that's not a certainty yet.
America’s descent into mass delusion isn’t happenstance. The demise of courageous journalism isn’t a happy accident. Its replacement with engagement-chasing infotainment and propaganda isn’t an error. It’s a global assault on reason and informed consensus, and corporations and authoritarian bullies ...

What's ironic about that? Lemmy is for those fleeing reddit, bluesky for those fleeing twitter.
Apple's new artificial intelligence features falsely made it seem the BBC reported Luigi Mangione had shot himself.
I know that's what drives me crazy too. As opposed to a lot of harmful conservative policies that are clearly motivated by a desire to look out for the interests of the wealthy or pander to xenophobes, the anti-vaxx stuff is just pure contagious madness.
The party used up about $5 billion on political ads in 2024. There’s a better way.
We won't find out if this changed anything until Rupert is dead.

What billionaire?
Yeah I think that's exactly it
I think there's a lot of overlap between people interested in a reddit alternative and a twitter alternative. Or maybe as that guy below says it's just that I'm personally posting about it a lot.
The reason people post on these sites is to make themselves heard I guess. You just have to ignore or block your way into the level of interaction you're comfortable with.
Russian fascist owned? What are you talking about?

Bluesky can fuck right off as well. I tried it to see if it was any different than Twitter but I had to nope out after 10 minutes.
I've never understood the whole Twitter formula anyways. Scroll through endless ramblings of people I don't care about? No thanks.
There are far better places to stay informed about certain topics or get in touch with people you know.
Sure the billionaire buying stuff thing happens, but a Nazi billionaire?
To be fair Musk buying twitter and turning it into a Nazi propaganda site was kind of flukey.
Interesting. As with any problematic group that makes the transition it's a bit annoying to have to deal with them on the new platform, but they shouldn't be banned and them moving is a great sign that bluesky has the juice.
Meaning like the rationalist / effective altruism guys? Would have thought they'd be prone to sticking with Musk
Not every social media format is for everyone, no need to be hostile about it. I just can't bring myself to engage with TikTok and Reels and such, but other people really like them and why would that be a problem for me?
Bluesky just captures the magic of pre-Musk twitter in a way Mastodon does not
Eh idk, Elon boosting right-wing content doesn't mean that nobody was seeing people's anti-Trump posts on there, much less that they did any harm.
