  • Using https://hotaudiofiction.social/u/@effinbirds@mastodon.social (when logged into said instance) throws a 404 for me.

It works now, and I believe that's general fediverse behavior.

From what I've read, it's normal that a first attempt at accessing a user or magazine from a not-yet-federated instance WILL fail. But your instance will start federating then, and subsequent attempts are most likely going to succeed (as this one did for me).

I don't know though if this behavior (instance starts federating after failed access) happens when accessing the url directly too, or if it's specifically built into the search (the magnifying glass in the top right).

So no, it's not a configuration error I think.

  • My favorite is definitely DekiNeko so far. I wasn't interested in the premise and had mixed expectations of this and Megane because they're made by gohands and have the same staff, but I decided to give it a try because why not. It has completely blown my expectations so far, and I hope they manage to keep up the quality somehow despite the staff situation.

The other anime by gohands has also been really good so far, at least since the latter half of episode 1. The first half was really weirdly directed and I could definitely see there why the studio is disliked, but there's none of that in the rest of the show. I'm liking DekiNeko quite a lot more between these two though.

Other shows I'm enjoying a lot are probably more popular: Helck, Zom100, and Murder Farce.

It's not among my favorites, but other than DekiNeko my biggest surprise this season has definitely been Ai no Idenshi.

Despite adapting a 2015 manga, it feels like it was made in direct response to the recent AI boom this year. It uses an episodic format to tackle several important moral questions when it comes to integrating ai into our daily lives. And it doesn't just give you an answer to those questions. It gives you both perspectives and lets you figure out your answer yourself. I really don't like the art style and the characters are very bland, but I'm enjoying the episodic stories a lot and it's definitely not at all as generic and low quality as I expected.

  • ChatGPT is going to get you rejected for made up sources for sure.

  • The easiest test would be seeing how it renders on an alternate KBin instance

So, not op, but I just tested this. The issue OP is seeing doesn't occur on karab.in and fedia.io the same way it does on lemmy, but I'm noticing that there IS an issue with how the markdown is federated between kbin instances.

This is, verbatim, what I get on both karab.in and fedia.io:

Show off your hard work! (Not limited to just weight loss) Use this format when posting pictures: Gender/Age/Height [Weight Before Weight After = Total Amount Lost] (Time period in months) Personal title Example: F/23/5'5" [289lbs 250lbs = 39lbs] (4 months) I am very proud of myself! RULES Be respectful Support one another No sexual comments (based on the subreddit)

Notice how there's no new lines / paragraphs and that some of the > (but not all of them) got changed into > and the receiving instance didn't change them back.

For reference, this is how it should be:

Show off your hard work! (Not limited to just weight loss)

Use this format when posting pictures:
Gender/Age/Height [Weight Before Weight After = Total Amount Lost] (Time period in months) Personal title
    Example: F/23/5'5" [289lbs 250lbs = 39lbs] (4 months) I am very proud of myself!

    RULES
    Be respectful
    Support one another
    No sexual comments

    (based on the subreddit)

So clearly there is an issue with kbin itself here, whether or not lemmy has an issue too.

  • @Eigengrau

Both kbin and lemmy inherently support microblog posts because that's what threads are behind the scenes. Kbin and Lemmy just choose to display things in a more reddit-like manner. The microblog tab on kbin is for communication with the wider fediverse, but lemmy.world asking kbin.social for new threads made by its users will result in microblog posts made from kbin.social showing up as normal threads on lemmy.world. Because threads and posts are pretty much the same behind the scenes.
What lemmy shouldn't be able to see is mastodon posts. I'm not sure though if kbin replies to mastodon posts make those appear on lemmy, that's a possibility but I don't know the answer there.

  • What do you mean with broken? Seems to be working fine for me.

If you mean it opens an error page, you probably left the thread open for too long. Upvoting and boosting does bring me to an error page if I do it after walking away from my pc and coming back. But a refresh fixes that.

  • Yeah, someone else already pointed this out to me. All I was aware of (and got from google when checking) was the political definition, so I thought that's all there is to it. I guess this is one of those cases where I should have probably asked ai instead of google because I'm sure I would have been informed of this that way.

  • Oh, that would be it then, yeah. In hindsight, I should have asked chatgpt about this first, that would have probably told me about this. I did check google, but it only gave me information on federation in politics, so I assumed that's the only thing there is.

This makes perfect sense then, thanks for clearing that up!

  • I mean, without a central governance, just cooperation, isn't it just a confederation then?

  • I see, I do think a confederation fits much more with that reasoning, but I can understand it from that perspective.
