  • Ooh I forgot to mention brewing method yes.:-)

I typically go for French Vanilla creamer but hazelnut is good:-).

  • The last time I needed care I went to an "urgent care" facility (for anyone outside of the USA who doesn't know: we have a whole range from "clinics" e.g. a headcold that needs antibiotics to "urgent care" for some routine items to "emergency room" that has everything), they sent me to the ER where I had to wait for 6 hours and ended up with a $1k bill even after insurance.

Sadly, many people lack insurance entirely or it's not reliable so what it seems that many people do lately is wait and wait, doing nothing, then also end up in the ER. We are all connected: what affects others will affect us too - I wish people would remember that more readily, whenever they go to the polls.:-(

  • B/c the goal of any hospital should not be to provide care and rather to make money.

    capitalism

  • Yesterday I even took a break from social media altogether (except logging in to check for mod reports) - it was harder to do that than I expected...

Social media is an infinite book + conversation in one. :-)

  • VERY true, sadly. However, I would consider China as one of the exceptions to that... mainly bc it sounded like that's what John Oliver was telling me to do:-P

  • That makes sense, if regional kinda works for your scenario. It wouldn't really for mine, so I feel the need to go straight to "American", but your description helps me see how that wouldn't work as well, as in like not be as suitable, for someone else. Thanks for sharing your story:-).

  • Cool! Although if it's able to detect that you enjoy "lgbt and neurodivergent people", then it sounds like the tracking isn't being blocked. On the other hand, it's kinda working for you and that's mainly what matters:-).

  • Speaking for myself, I used to be far more likely to discover a community by browsing All than by reading in one of the new community announcements.

But I apparently am even more-r likely now to find out about them in reading a post in the likes of !yepowertrippinbastards@lemmy.dbzer0.com or !fedigrow@lemm.ee.

    Excellent community promotion efforts!:-)

  • I did not make it but presumably it's ripped straight from the film then:-).

  • I did strongly wonder if that is the reason why, but ultimately can only guess or relate from someone who actually knows:-).

  • Oh no... but yeah that does make sense, sadly:-(.

  • Take this with a grain of salt bc small sample size, but I've also heard from South or Latin Americans that simply saying "American" = USA. It's just that rest, I don't know why.

Language might be one reason, and Hollywood and other cultural exports, but also I think people there identify more with like a Global South than as part of the American continent.

So to me it's one of those things that you would think increase welcomingness and inclusivity, but for whatever reason in practice kinda somehow does the opposite (or not opposite, but just has the negative effect of sounding awkward without much of any positive benefit).

But I'd be happy to be proven wrong if that's actually the way it is. If you find out, please let us all know, maybe with a post about it!? :-D

  • I'm not sure whether to say congratulations or I'm sorry (for circumstances leading up to that), I guess bc both are true at the same time. Either way it's rough, but also awesome that you have friends to hang with then:-).

  • Sorry, I dunno where the word blocking came from in my reply - fat fingering I guess:-).

TikTok is well known for honing in on your preferences - which is both great and perhaps dangerous at the same time, be careful? Like Google, they may start charging money to get what you currently receive now for free.

That's really odd that your YouTube is showing generic stuff - for most people it shows the same content, so you must be stopping their trackers somehow.:-)

  • Omg Texas is amazing and I think probably the only state that has one of every type of terrain - mountains, watery stuff, deserts even, and plains. (I don't know if that's strictly speaking true, but it certainly feels like it!:-)
