I definitely forgot to add a password file when I upgraded through ansible and locked myself out of the DB. Also locked myself out with the private instance + federation setting combo. Still enjoying it, though!
I understand you are in other arguments in this thread. This wasn't meant to be one of them. I just got a kick out of you using "10 years", "nowadays" etc for a game that is 20 years old.
Surprised I'm not seeing any other self-hosters in here. Having seen the de-federation drama, it's nice to know that I can federate with anyone I want, regardless of if they are federating with eachother.
Obviously it comes with the administration side of things, but I really don't mind.
Database name is the database name, not the table name
User is the user for your database. Look up how to create new users in phpmyadmin. You should be able to grant or revoke different accesses in phpmyadmin as well to achieve an account which can only read a specific table (search for information on grants)
Lastly, Id like to suggest you not write your own security techniques (auth, etc). Look up best practices and use them (JWT, OAuth, Session cookies, etc).
They're using a window manager over a full DE, so it's likely the usual case of preferring minimalism to the very complete desktop environment (which many consider bloated). I'm a window manager person myself, but I've been giving KDE a good honest try for the past couple of weeks. It's definitely very nice if you want the full DE experience.
TBH, the only times I've visited since this whole thing began have been from Google searches. I miss a couple of subs, but I think Lemmy/Kbin will fill that void in due time.
I was having a look at the neutron when they announced the proton. Held off to buy the proton. Now the neutron is discontinued (or just expensive?) and the proton is still not available 😭
🤣
