Big ol' Boston Butt [BBQ]
  • Did that work?

  • Is it possible to guess what country (or better still - what region) I was walking in where I found and photographed these (mostly wild) plants?
  • FYI, I believe you can insert individual photos into the BODY section. Just click the 'image' icon (3rd from left on Jerboa) and choose your photos. It will insert them into the main body of your post.

Also, I wanna say east coast US for these. Probably waaayyyy off. Nice photos, btw!

  • Dinner courtesy of air fryer
  • Great combo, and delicious pic!!

Did you toss all this in together, or separate meat/veg?

My biggest peeve w/air fryers in general is the tiny amount you're limited to per basket if you really want to get any kind of browning on your foods.

  • FAILURE! a MEDIOCRE cauliflower with an OK sauce
  • It may not be what you're looking for, and you may not even have one, but have you tried air frying the cauliflower? Tossed in a tiny bit of oil and whatever seasoning you like, air fried veggies like that can brown/crisp up nicely.

  • How the hell do I properly find and sub?? The only way I've learned how to search is by the bottom hamburger menu looking search thing on jerboa... I am so damn lost on this whole system. I can't wait for a tutorial 😂

I can't figure out how to do 80% of what I thought I knew!

  • Does lemmy.world really have 19000 users already?
  • So, I'm still seeing a 'pending' status for mine. I signed up on both beehaw and lemmy.world, and I was really hoping to be able to help grow both, but I can't create a community on beehaw, so I'm just sitting here waiting to be approved(?) on lemmy.world to be able to do that. I think. I'm not sure I've got much of this as figured out as everyone else.

  • If we want this to work out make content do not just lurk
  • I would have absolutely said that around my core group of friends. I'm here for real comments too! Laughing releases endorphins or something, right?

  • B. Nodosa baby just had its first birthday!
  • Shew! That's a tiny fella! Good on you for keeping that one alive for a year!

We have around 300 houseplants, but nothing quite this tiny and delicate, other than a handful of her super rare and annoyingly finicky Hoyas!

  • Lots of interesting birds on my lunch walk
  • So cool! I always enjoy seeing birds from other parts of the world than I frequent.

If I may add, politely, that you should be careful not to lean too heavily on the sound ID of merlin for accuracy. It's good, but not great by any means.

We need a Birding community here!!

  • I'm really enjoying no down votes on Beehaw
  • Man, do I miss a good forum.

I still have an account on a really great college football board that has taught me a TON about the most random things. All while being generally awesome people. Hoping at least some of this new (to many of us n00bs) world stays this way.

  • You can count the spores
  • Hey, thanks so much! I wish I had the original on this phone, but I've not taken the time to find that old SD card, so this will have to suffice for now!

I'd love to post all kinds more, but I have no clue what I'm reeeeeally doing, and where I should or shouldn't be doing it!

  • Addressing the Exponential Growth of Communities
  • I would kill to just have some help/pointers figuring out how to navigate this... Fediverse?

I've made a couple posts, on one, maybe two, um, Instances? In the communities there?

I don't know. All this change is coming at like, the WORST time in my personal/professional life and learning a whole new world is just... Daunting. (waahhhhhh 😭)

  • Hey, kudos for even attempting a tri-tip! Even a good one is pretty great!

And yep, I write down notes on every cook I can remember to do it for, and my Inkbird App/thermometer does a lot of that for me now. Thing is a godsend.

  • I've wrapped before, using the "Texas Crutch" at the ~165° stall, but no wrap this time, I just spritzed with apple cider vinegar every 30mins after the bark formed well enough, and waited her out 'naked' until 2am haha.

  • Big ol' Boston Butt [BBQ]

Smoked a 10lb Boston butt this past weekend to help feed some friends on a small "get away" cabin trip. Turned out pretty okay. Lessons learned, every time!

Fiancée tried a new baked bean recipe. I threw those on for a few hours too... !

Finally ready to wrap and rest. 17hrs later! !

Pulled and ready to disappear. And boy, did it.

    !

If anyone has pointers on how to post in a sleeker or more proper manner, I'd love to learn. I'm just trying to post some content and not just waste my account.

OH, and if I could ever figure out how to make a community(?) I'd definitely post this in a Smoker one or something like that. Okay, enjoy the crappy pics of some pretty tasty grub!

  • Also, yes, I used this for my avatar image. It's really just a personal favorite!

  • You can count the spores

I love testing the limits of my cell phone, and my skills with it.

This is a close up of a mushroom of no certain type. Taken with a Galaxy S21, I believe (little older photo) 1920x4224(maybe?)

Tips for some easy indoor plants?
  • I'd like to add here, since you appreciate the variety of growing mediums, check out growing your houseplants in LECA (kiln-fired clay balls).

An alternative to soil substrates, and I won't claim to be an expert on it at all. We do have around 300 tropical houseplants, though. And I'd say a good 50% are in LECA only and thriving!

Best of luck with whichever route you try!

  • Tips for some easy indoor plants?
  • Adding to many other great suggestions already, but check out the Syngonium family. They'll often be referred to as an Arrowhead Plant. They are very forgiving, can be found in a TON of gorgeous varieties, and are often pretty inexpensive.

  • I guess tonight I learn how to make a smoker instance(?)!

Just did a 10lb Boston butt for a cabin trip this past weekend. May have a few photos...

Also, sorry, but zero idea on beef jerky that ships. Are you meaning like a brand of some that can be purchased online? I'll do some research! Orrrrrr... Once I figure it out, you can post that question in the smoker Instance!

  • Does anyone like birds facing forward? Here's a Lincoln's Sparrow
  • I love head-on shots! You've captured this one perfectly, and with a lifer, no less! Congrats all around!
