I don't know how it works on lemmy. But on Pixelfed after you successfully federate with Mastodon.social or any other instances. It will automatically start discovering new instances and federate with them.
There is also Calckey if you haven't tried it yet. It has a lots of useful features compared to mastodon. You can migrate everything to another instance very easily.
For Photography Pixelfed is always recommended but it doesn't have blogging option. With WordPress you might have to spend some time to figure out how you're gonna do it. But it's totally capable of fulfilling your requirements.
