  • Russia had to invade, just like any other country would have done, to protect the Donbass civilians that were being murdered by their government in Kyiv. Why? Because they were Russian speaking and didn't want to bow down to a government in Kyiv, that was installed in a coup run by the United States and NATO (that's what colour revolutions are, FFS).

Kyiv had outlawed the Russian language as one of their very first laws. BTW, Putin's not a dictator, that's B$ propaganda. Again, you're believing what we've been told for years. Sure, the Soviet Union was totalitarian, but the Russian Federation is not. RussiaGate that Hitlery declared was the reason for her loss, has, in fact, been proven to have been a lie, cooked up by the “Democratic” party.

  • • 4 minutes ago If Russia pulled back out of Ukraine, would the war end? If given the opportunity, will Putin conquer Ukraine? Do you think Putin is likely to invade other bordering countries if he successfully conquers Ukraine? Where do you think Putin would stop?

1/ No, the USA/NATO has to have an enemy to justify the existence of NATO. BTW, NATO is supposed to be a defensive organization, but their recent history defies that lie. All one has to do is look at the attack on the former Yugoslavia, Iraq, and Libya. Defensive it's not!

2/ No, he doesn't want the headache or need the land or resources. At the start, he stated the goals. To stop the attacks against ethnic Russian Ukrainians, and to rid the country of the Fascist/Nationalist elements in Western Ukraine, adherents left over from WW2. Unfortunately, they were never purged like in Germany. That was an oversight by everyone.

3/ No, unless they attack or support militarily, such attacks inside Russia or allow warplanes to take off from their aeroports to attack Russia. He's stated such publicly.

4/ When the mission goals stated at the start of the SMO are accomplished, he'll stop. Don't forget about the Minsk 1 and 2 accords, which would have prevented this war, were never implemented by the USA/NATO. So one can hardly blame the Russian government for not taking anything NATO/USA says as serious. They've been deceived too many times by us.

  • Yet everyone assumes I'm a conservative! Politics isn't black and white but many shades of gray. On some subjects one can be conservative leaning but still a socialist. The primary thing I don't agree with my fellow lefties is Gender Politics. Because of that, I'm branded a conservative. LOL Yes, I'd rather be in a multipolar world than one in which a top-down fascist leadership, like the USA, dictates to everyone what they can and can't do. That's their current practice with the Global South and other countries. Everyone is sick of the hypocritical leadership of the so-called Free World!

  • Robert Parry didn’t write this article, kind of difficult when you’re dead I guess. Caitlin Johnstone did. Holy shit, there’s a lot of unbiased reporting there hey!

I didn't say he did, his legacy is the example for their high standard of investigative reportage. They do not do government propaganda like the commercial MSM. However, you're a proponent of the Big Lie and a propagandist supporter yourself. You should be ashamed. But I doubt you have that much empathy or self awareness.

  • @Cyclist@lemmy.world Maybe you should stay in the Ukraine site that you like, celebrating Russian soldiers being blown up. Now that I know where you're coming from, I won't waste my time conversing with you. You're not interested in the objective truth, your mind is already made up. Sick of you rejoicing in the brutal death of the soldier in that video.

  • It was a mine fuckwit, not a grenade.

  • It’s blatant Russian propaganda presented as a criticism of US propaganda.

You wouldn't recognize propaganda if you saw it. That's what is ironic. You believe the lie.

  • But no need to engage in silly hypotheticals. We have the very real example of Russia attempting to claim land, through military force, of another sovereign nation. As I said before:

It doesn't matter, I'm just explaining WHY they invaded. BTW, Russia doesn't need land, they're the largest country in the world. What they do need is a buffer zone from NATO missiles right on their border. You do realize don't you, that when the WALL came down in Germany in the 90s, (probably b4 you were born) that NATO/USA promised that NATO would not expand any further east. This is a known fact. So again, who is the Imperialist in the World? Repeat after me — it's the USA. And they're still colonizing or trying to. Just ask Africa or South America.

  • Ukraine didn’t invade Russia. The US didn’t invade Russia. Russia invaded Ukraine

Let me ask you this. What do you think the USA would do, if Russia installed nuclear capable missiles in Canada or Mexico? Hypersonic ones? What do you think the USA would do if Russia also had “advisers” on the ground training Canadian or Mexican troops right next to the American border? Training them to attack one of the US states like Texas, to support them in separating from the USA? Don't you think the USA would invade either of those countries to prevent that from happening? Now imagine that in addition to all of the above, the USA was shelling strictly civilian areas in Texas with heavy weapons, NOT military installations! This is what happened in Ukraine.

  • He was even awarded twice by Nieman Foundation at Harvard. Surely you know what that means? Thats the type of journalism this website does. So I'd take anything they say as fact checked triple times. They do not do propaganda for anybody! https://nieman.harvard.edu/tag/consortiumnews-com/

  • Oh heck I'll do it for you. From Wikipedia: Robert Earle Parry (June 24, 1949 – January 27, 2018) was an American investigative journalist. He was known for his role in covering the Iran–Contra affair for the Associated Press (AP) and Newsweek, including breaking the Psychological Operations in Guerrilla Warfare (CIA manual provided ... Wikipedia

  • BTW, It appears you're unfamiliar with Consortium News. Check their history out, they don't post propaganda. Their founder was a very storied award-winning journalist. You might do well to pay attention to what they write.Do a search on Robert Parry.

  • Yeah, sure. It wasn't posted again, I pulled it from my research app. The date at the top is when it's retrieved by your browser, if you read it online tomorrow it'll be tomorrow's date. The only Disinfo is what you've been reading in that Kyiv Independent!

  • Doing so is an act of aggression, and you can bet that the military alliance that exists, in part, to prevent your imperialist expansion, will fight back. The fact that Russia chose to instigate and encroach on land that doesn’t belong to them means that Russia can end the war immediately by simply stopping the invasion. Russia invaded Ukraine. Not the other way around.

The imperialist aggressor here is the USA and Ukraine.

  • Manufacturing Consent is brilliant, and Noam Chomsky’s understanding of American power and propaganda is second to none. But this article is hot garbage and stinks of Russian propaganda. It says that the Kyiv Independent was slapped together a few months ago. What a load of shit. The thing to remember here is that Putin is a murderous dictator who invaded a sovereign nation. Fuck this article

Excuse me? Check the date of the article! The Kyiv Independent (such an ironic name) was indeed slapped together. This is what happens when commenting without reading the article comprehensively.

  • Irony so thick you can cut it with a knife.

    What's so ironic about it?

  • If one hasn't seen it, highly recommend the documentary 'Manufacturing Consent'. It might open eyes, hopefully.

  • From the earliest days of the Russian invasion, it was clear that the Western world was being smashed with a deluge of propaganda unlike anything we’ve ever seen before. In the first full month of the conflict, American network TV stations gave more coverage to the war in Ukraine than any other war that the U.S. has been directly involved in, including Iraq and Vietnam

  • This argument is not a good one

It's not an 'argument' it's an explanation of how we got here and the meddling the USA and NATO is/has been doing. That's what isn't good for the world. Unless you think America is the shining beacon on the hill. I surely don't.

  • Russia can end their invasion whenever they want to. The ball has been in their court from the beginning.

That's not understanding why Russia invaded in the 1st place. And now, that eastern land will never be returned to Ukraine, it wasn't traditionally Ukraine anyway. The western part of Ukraine is historically Hungarian and Polish, whilst the eastern part was always Russian. What should really happen is for Poland and Hungary to swallow their traditional lands, that would fix things and the Western part of what is now Ukraine, would be happy that they're in the EU. Not sure if Poland wants all those fascists — so it'll be interesting to see what happens with western Ukraine.
