  • Caturday part 2! Remix!

  • I think this is a little overblown. How long were you in reddit for?

A lot of the people coming over here were on reddit for 10-12 years, back in the old days. People are adjusting. A big majority of the new users on Lemmy aren’t interested in going back to reddit at all, nor do we want Lemmy to be reddit.

Reddit has degraded significantly overtime, I think that the API debacle was a massive wake up call. People are still adjusting and there is a very big wave of new users on July 1.

But many of us came over in early June when the changes were first announced. I haven’t been back to Reddit since and I have been a lot happier. I honestly found that my interactions have been very pleasant here, the content has been deeper and more engaging, overall I’m really excited for the future.

Reddit was fun but it’s time has passed for a lot of the users here.

  • It was a very similar series of events. Company went back on its mission and values, focusing on making money at expense of its core user experience.

  • Thank you for everything that you do!

  • Thank you for everything that you do!

  • Lemmy reminds me in a big way of the internet in 2000s, things are still being set up and figured out. It’s going to be a while till there’s a reliable and polished experience and that’s actually a good thing. It takes time to build something great and there’s a lot of a learning curve.

Patience is a good thing to practice now and hopefully the new user base can find the great things we’ve seen with Lemmy and have some patience as things stabilize.

  • Really incredible to see these snap shots of people’s lives. To think whole families, great days, and tragedies all sprung up around these people in the time span. Life is a mysterious journey.

  • 100%, 12 year daily reddit user - feels like I’m out of a bad relationship. I moved all my third party apps off three weeks ago and have replaced all my time with Lemmy and the Fediverse.

I didn’t realize how poorly the experience had degraded - scrolling content mindlessly, most interactions were dull and sometimes weirdly antagonistic.

Conversely, my experience on Lemmy has been interesting content with more depth, connecting with people in a warm and welcoming way. I don’t expect this to become reddit - I wouldn’t really want it to.

I am excited for a future here as the third party apps are removed last this week and we can start a new adventure together.

  • the #17 most watched movie on AppleTV is Titanic… I was surprised haha

  • this looks so good and is inspiring what I want for dinner

  • Nice and tall! how hot is are the peppers? any variation in color?

  • this is one of the most mildly interesting things i’ve ever seen. How’s the pizza?

  • this reminds me of the days of ice soap chili

  • the sweet feeling of solitude.

  • strangely motivational on Thursday afternoon

  • bro, did Jurassic Park teach us nothing? when you gotta go, you gotta go!

  • The other thing is why this timeline? I think it’s because of the downgrade of the valuation on the IPO.

It seems like there are investors and other forces plus the absolutely awful communication and leadership from Huffman.

They are in this spot where people who don’t seem to understand Reddit are making decisions about it.

Even if this doesn’t “kill” reddit, the decision making has been very obviously hostile toward its users and future.

  • believe it or not, reddit was a lot like this 12 years ago. I have found people are a lot kinder and warmer here than reddit had become. Welcome!

  • do you have any more info on how to get started with this? I have no desire to go back but would love to know how to loosely lurk like that
