Help me stop accidentally hurting my dog
  • I usually go with the light switch/outlet screw but you said those are covered. There must be grounded metal somewhere in your house. The microwave body, a pipe or faucet, you could even get one of those grounding wrist straps that plug into the ground port on your wall socket.

  • Pro-China influence campaign pushed talking points across more than 50 websites
  • The prostitution comparison is completely out of left field. You're implying that sex workers are dishonest, which I don't see at all. The proposition of a sex worker is very upfront.

Lawyer, salesman, CEO, politician, or advertising exec would all be way better examples of dishonest professions.

  • Good local-only/local-first wifi thermostat?
  • Yeah, I don't blame you not wanting to commit to a hub if you'd only have this thermostat.

Depending on what features you want maybe you could find an offline one with those features built in. I know there's ones with schedules and presence detection that are fully offline.

  • Why are folks so anti-capitalist?
  • Demonstrating that the bottom 99% has had wages increase 50% since 1979 while inflation has decreased the value of the same currency by 320% is damning. There's no good defense for capitalism here.

  • Why are folks so anti-capitalist?
  • It does match exactly what's happening though. Others have mentioned housing cost which is a clear example, but you can also look at income inequality. Here's an article which cites data from the congressional budget office https://inequality.org/facts/income-inequality/

It shows up to 500% growth since 1979 in the earnings of the .01% while the 99% of earners are only making about 50% more than in 1979. That data makes it clear that wealth is being concentrated, and that people at the bottom are going with less. Especially considering inflation since 1979 has been 320% (source)

  • Dreametech W10 Robot Vacuum on sale
  • Was looking into getting one of these a few weeks ago when I thought my neato had finally kicked the bucket. After dealing with neato servers for 4 years local control was a must so I stumbled across valetudo and was instantly sold on the idea. Turns out the neato was easily fixable so I'm gonna squeeze some more life out of that first.

I did see a lot of complaints about the mops not getting raised up and leaving trails behind it when it returns to it's base. Has that been a big issue for you or is it overblown?

  • Student Loan Forgiveness: Supreme Court Strikes Down Biden’s Debt Forgiveness Plan
  • It does have bipartisan support, this is repeatedly shown in polling. But it doesn't matter what voters want. The interests of capital will be served above all else because of decades of antidemocratic moves.

    Antidemocratic moves like

    • Legalized bribes that push politicians towards the interests of capital.
    • Gerrymandering, voter suppression, and the electoral college which all reduce progressive and leftist voices to the point where we need massively more votes than right wingers to get the same power.
    • Filibuster power that firmly cements the status quo by requiring the majority of bills get a supermajority vote to pass.
    • Democrats being unwilling to wield their power to revoke the filibuster and enact their legislative agenda
    • The rotating villian democrats always seem to have have who can spoil anything even close to progress by one or two votes (Manchin and Sinema for now)

The US is just an oligarchy at this point and it's getting harder and harder for me to stay optimistic about getting out of it.

  • Will you upgrade your PC now that you have a steam deck?
  • I'm using the steam service, even for emulated games. I've just added the exe for yuzu (or whatever else I want to stream) as a non-steam game. Sometimes it does just work but the majority of the time I have to fiddle to get it going. It's definitely better than the steam link days though so hopefully it'll keep getting smoother over time.

  • Will you upgrade your PC now that you have a steam deck?
  • I do this a lot too, have a steam link I used to use all the time before my deck. The latency is not noticable on the same network but there's a lot of little things that taint the streaming experience for me, never seems to go smoothly. I'm curious if others have that same experience.

I've mainly had issues with either the controls not getting passed through, or an issue where the frame rate jumps really high (like 2500) then drops and gets stuck around 20 until I force the deck to update the display's framerate.

Once I'm in game things are usually fine but getting it goong can be a headache.
