  • If you genuinely think trans people aren't being hurt by anyone who carries the anti-trans belief, then I recommend looking up some of the many news articles that details violence against trans people.

I've provided some for you, I genuinely hope that you take the time to read these.

    https://www.hrc.org/resources/fatal-violence-against-the-transgender-and-gender-expansive-community-in-2022

    https://www.aclu.org/legislative-attacks-on-lgbtq-rights-2024

The last one I posted tracks all of the current anti-LGBT legislation that's trying to pass into law. It's not just physical or emotional violence trans and LGBT people face, it's also people trying to enact laws that actively deny their rights as human beings. This isn't exclusive to America either, I got results from all over the world during my search.

You may not be violent in your beliefs, but it doesn't mean others aren't.

  • "Observers note that earning these felony convictions fly in the face of Trump’s long documented history of never lifting a finger to do real work in his 77 years on this planet. Despite subsisting entirely on family wealth and business connections, having his reputation as a shrewd businessman created out of whole cloth by reality TV producers, and clinching the 2016 presidential election with massive help from Russian cyber operations, Trump has finally earned a criminal conviction entirely on his own."

    Gold.

  • OOP posts "out shopping, found this" the very next post in OPs feed is "woman out shopping, finds husband" making it seem like OOP and the woman in the second post are the same person and her husband is the lemmy soda(juice?)

  • What the actual fuck is wrong with YOU? Obviously, this person is not in their right mind and not thinking straight. You think speaking to people like this is going to solve anything? If you have such an issue, report the post and block it from your feed instead of whatever the fuck that was. Have some compassion, Christ.

  • I joined Lemmy during the great Reddit exodus and I've been here pretty much since then and to be honest, I never really felt the difference between the two except user count, so it's interesting to hear other people's perspective such as yours.

As to your last point, I think there are a lot of factors, anonymity being the biggest one. Lack of social contracts being another. It's easier to be a jerk behind the screen where you don't have to actually face the real-life consequences of treating people poorly. Compound that with others who encourage and join in on the hate. Sometimes, it's deserved, though more often than not, it isn't. That's just my theory, though.

  • This is what I've been mostly asking myself since I've heard the homicide ruling. Forcillo has already been tried, convicted, and served his time. I have the most basic understanding of our laws, but he can't be recharged for the same crime? However, could the family sue him in, like, civil court or something, based on this new ruling?
