  • Sadly no, I had a dog but had to put her to sleep last year. She was the best 💜 I do plan to get two puppies probably next year though. :)

This weekend I'm at my folks' house petsitting their cat, who is a floofy little purr machine!

What's your favorite comfort food recipe to cook?

  • I wore a Blossom hat to school. I had just started junior high and it was like the third day of the school year. I had this brand new crushed velvet hat with little pink rosebuds and I was so excited to wear it. I paired it with a satin floral vest, a pink turtleneck, and a pair of stirrup pants, as was the style at the time, and strutted into school knowing I was stylin'.

I had no idea there was a rule against hats, and in homeroom, in front of everyone, my battleaxe of a homeroom teacher yelled at me: "Who told you you could wear a hat?!" To which little timid me said "... my mom?" And she yelled "You know you're not allowed to wear hats in school, take that off right now! I don't want to see it again!" And I almost fucking cried.

Thanks for embarrassing me in front of everyone, Mrs. DeFilippo.

  • My favorite thing about myself is that I'm creative. I've lost touch with that a little bit but I'm working my way back to it. I used to love drawing, painting, and making things like colored pencil art, abstract design art, Christmas decorations, beaded jewelry - I was always making something. Now I mostly express my creativity with makeup and nails. And I've just started picking up woodworking - so far I've only built a chair for my deck, but the goal is to make all my deck furniture, plus a new enclosure for my veggie/fruit garden!

There's a lot to make! A second chair, a sectional to match, a propane firepit with a cement top and matching tank cover, an outdoor dining table with 8 chairs... and I'm considering getting a sewing machine and learning to make cushions for all the seating!

  • I actually love that because you can add your own color with paint, throw rugs, furniture, etc. It allows you to start from a blank canvas.

For contrast, my parents' house has one bathroom with a mustard yellow toilet and yellow-and-white floor tile, and another bathroom with an avocado green toilet and matching shower enclosure. These were put in by the previous owner and date back to the '70s. They're in perfectly good shape, so my folks don't want to replace them, but it does force them to decorate those rooms with complementing colors, and they will never not look dated.

  • I wear socks with flip flops like the one on the left around the house. My husband calls them my pig feet and he haaaates them. Sometimes I take off the flip flops and the cloven toe sock remains for a while. He super hates that haha

  • In Southeast Pennsylvania (Philly suburbs):

    • Winters are way more mild with much less snow. We were recently rezoned from 7a to 7b, which tells me the USDA believes this change isn't going to revert.
    • Summers are a lot hotter and more humid (and there are so many goddamn mosquitoes!)
    • We get really strong wind gusts now - it's not uncommon for the day's forecast to have wind at 25 mph (about 40 kph) with gusts at 45 mph (about 72 kph)
    • We get tornado alerts a few times each summer now. Those used to be super rare.
    • We get haze as the soot from the Canadian wildfires drifts in our direction
  • Minimalistic, clean lines. I don't like a lot of detailing or filigree on things because it just collects dust and makes it so much more work to keep things clean. No curtains and only a limited amount of tchotchkies for the same reason. Other than that, I like a lot of grey, blues, and greens, with the occasional pop of something bright. Soft, textured fabrics for duvet, throw pillows, and area rugs.
