  • Let me warn you first, your GPU might cause some issues with the distro.

Based on all the info you told me about the distro you want, I would recommend Opensuse Tumbleweed.

After installing you would just need to install Nvidia drivers and the codecs and you will be ready to go.

If you plan to use flatpacks for your media playing software and browser then you won't need codecs as it's included in the flatpacks.

Just don't forget to configure auto update and when you start installing at the final screen before clicking install make sure that ssh is disabled and selinux is enabled for extra security.

    Extra notes:

    • The default browser is firefox, but it can be replaced with any other browser.

    • If you want a working office suite and you don't have high requirements, you can choose between Libre Office, Free office[Prop] or WPS office [Prop].

I hope you enjoy your time on linux.

  • "Your body, my choice:" Hate and harassment towards women spreads online

    > A new report from the Institute for Strategic Dialogue (ISD) has found that digital hate and harassment against women rose rapidly after the U.S. presidential election. Sexist phrases like “repeal the 19th [Amendment]” and “get back to the kitchen” surged on platforms like X, TikTok, Facebook, and Reddit following President Donald Trump’s victory over Vice President Kamala Harris. Many of the most frequent comments involve calls for a decrease in women’s rights, while others have explicitly threatened women with sexual assault and harassment. Mentions of the statement “Your body, my choice”—a direct response to the reproductive justice movement’s slogan, “my body, my choice”—grew by over 4600 percent on X. The phrase also appears to have grown in popularity offline, with parents and students reporting groups of boys chanting it to girls in schools. One parent commented online, “Today my daughter was told three separate times on campus ‘your body, MY choice.’ The third group of boys told her to ‘sleep with one eye open tonight.’”

People who get bothered about downvotes, don't understand how to use social media.

I used multiple social media platforms and I can say in medium confidence that downvotes are almost useless to see for users.

They are made to influence the algorithm and that's it, if you are really bothered by them it's because you saw something you were never intended to see.

Reddit try to communicate this by showing you only one number for the total score and they are trying to not show you if your post score became in negative.

Matter of fact, I personally find downvotes pretty refreshing for me because I expect to hear something I don't know or a passionate criticism on my opinions or posts.

I think what could discourage me from posting is the lack of comments, not the downvotes.

Note: If you are really bothered about downvotes, you can disable showing down votes on the web client and in the mobile clients by changing that option in the settings.

    Downvote if you agree.

Effects of exposure to outdoor light at night on blood lipids in China: a nationwide cross-sectional study - Scientific Reports

    > Abstract > -- > Previous studies have reported that a potential association between exposure to outdoor light at night (LAN) and diseases. However, there is no evidence regarding the impacts of outdoor LAN exposure on lipid metabolism in humans. This study aims to evaluate the associations between outdoor LAN exposure and the prevalence of dyslipidemia, using a nationwide sample of 10,894 adults aged ≥ 45 years from 150 investigated sites across China in 2011–2012. Outdoor LAN exposure was assessed by using satellite imaging data. The prevalence ratio (PR) was calculated. The present study found that a per-quintile LAN exposure was positively associated with the prevalence of high LDL-cholesterol (PR = 1.10, 95% CI = 1.04–1.16), high triglyceride (PR = 1.07, 95% CI = 1.03–1.12), low HDL-cholesterol (PR = 1.11, 95% CI = 1.08–1.16), and dyslipidemia (PR = 1.06, 95% CI = 1.03–1.09). The fifth quintile of LAN exposure was associated with a significantly increased prevalence of dyslipidemia (PR = 1.20, 95% CI = 1.07–1.35) compared with the first quintile of exposure. Long-term exposure to outdoor LAN was positively associated with dyslipidemia prevalence. Public policies aimed at reducing light pollution at night, guided by the spatial distribution patterns, could lessen the adverse effects.

  • No, Your iPhone Is Not ‘Mysteriously Rebooting’: Here’s What’s Happening
  • 404 Media also goes into more detail of exactly what’s happening and, crucially, when. According to Chris Wade, founder and CTO of the cybersecurity startup Corellium, the reboot happens after four days.

Well, that’s information which will be useful to the police in Detroit, who can simply ensure they access each iPhone before the four days’ limited expires.

Of course, as the report goes on, it means that the real target of this update, criminals who have stolen your iPhone, will also now know to check in with the phone every few days. As cryptographer Matthew Green pointed out to 404 Media, “This feature means that if your phone gets stolen, the thieves can’t nurse it along for months until they develop the tech to crack it. I would bet that rebooting after a reasonable inactivity period probably doesn’t inconvenience anyone, but does make your phone a lot more secure. So, it seems like a pretty good idea.”

The original issue was making police in Detroit think that a series of iPhones were sneakily communicating with each other, as we’ll discuss below, but a new report talks about a “hidden feature,” as Charles Martin at Apple Insider describes it.

This feature is called inactivity reboot and it means that if the iPhone hasn’t been unlocked for a certain period of time, it will automatically reboot. Rebooting puts the iPhone in a state where a physical password is required to unlock it, “and is similar to a feature found on Macs. The Mac version, known as ‘hibernation mode,’ saves the state of the device to disk when put to sleep, in case the power fails or the battery runs out before the user can return to the machine,” as the report describes it.

  • Politics: it's very funny to me how the left in USA has turned on the immigrants after the election results.

I am not saying this as a person who analyzed thousands of posts to come with this.

I thought this is a basic concept given in my post.

But incase it wasn't clear, all of this are simple observations based on my subjective use of social media and for sure would not represent the whole left, as it would require deeper analysis of thousands of posts and comments.

This is a simple man observations.
