If you look at my profile you'll see that's not the case. I've been contributing quite a bit.
Oh Christ you're insufferable.
Incredibly well thought out reply. Thank you!
Your snark is the perfect embodiment of why people leave the fedi.
They're the absolute best along with Insta reels.
I've been off and on with the Fediverse for sometime now. It's a relatively friendly place full of fellow nerds, but with a few caveats....
My feeds seem very focused on hard information be it Gaza, tech companies doing bad things, or people pitchforking about the lastest big bad in digital privacy. This is all well and good, but it does get a bit tired after a while. Seeing the samey stuff post after post by academic types makes me more informed but also mentally draining.
Where's the fun? On Facebook and Instagram I see light fluffy popcorn type posts of people reminiscing over Nintendo games or reels of cockatiels being cockatiels. It's fun to scroll and interact. Here it feels like I'm in a classroom, and people, while friendly, do get quite hostile if you don't like Linux or Star Trek.
As a leftist I like it here because it's my bubble of people, but I'd like to see the fedi let its hair down a bit. It's okay to talk about stuff other than infosec, privacy guides, distros, and Gaza.

I didn't mean to frame the question as a judgemental post towards WhatsApp users. I'm genuinely curious. SMS sucks, and id gladly use WhatsApp if it was popular here. Instead I resort to things like Discord or RCS chats when available.
I read about WhatsApp and how people can't part with Meta because of it, however no one on my continent uses it. Why is it so popular in the EU and other parts of the world?
People always talk about WhatsApp but no one in North America uses it.
It has to be, right? Are we that out of touch with normies theses days?
In late 2023, Peter Kaestner was about to log his 10,000th bird species seen in the wild. Then Jason Mann showed up
Birder drama always makes me sad.
It's like that in the USA too. Most businesses use Facebook for their "website."
I feel like this is the best answer so far.

20-year-old World of Warcraft still seems to have plenty of spring in its step, according to Warcraft general manager John Hight. Its latest expansion, Dragonflight, has more subscribers now than it did at launch, and one intrepid content creator thinks they may have extrapolated roughly how many: o...
Woah. I didn't realize WoW was still this popular.
Goes against my narrative? Must be astroturfing! Give it a rest, mate.
Messenger no longer integrates SMS. It was dropped some time last year or even earlier.
Your aunt isn't making a new account every week. Also locked out accounts aren't active so that's irrelevant.
It's the largest social network in the USA by a large margin.
Accounts sitting untouched due to lockouts wouldn't be counted as active. Also Facebook added the ability to create alternate profiles tied to your main account so multiple accounts haven't been necessary for some time.
That's not true though.
Statistics show the average person spends far more time on Facebook vs other platforms though.
I read "it's dying" by people on Discord and Reddit all the time, but the numbers prove otherwise. It's been going up this entire time and sitting over 3 billion MONTHLY ACTIVE USERS!
I feel like the bubble around people on other platforms saying "who uses Facebook anymore lol" is kind of wild given the numbers. Keep in mind these are active users not just abandoned accounts.
This is Papa Bird. He's my spark bird and got me into birding single wingedly.
He's been nesting with me for 5 years now which is 2 years beyond their avg life span. He lives in my garage above the house door in a little crack in the wall.
There he has babies with Mama Bird every spring and summer. Their happy little chirps bring me endless joy.
I can open the door to my kitchen and watch him swoop in and out of the nest all day from my chair at the table. He isn't afraid of me.
I've never been more in love. He means everything to me 🤎🖤🤍
Outside of my Switch and Kindle my phone is all I have. It's a $1300 super device and I find it does more than enough. A magic reactangle with the answers to all life's problems. The ultimate minimalist device.

Gotta go fast (while remaining within the legal speed limit for the Arizona highway system).
It's far and away my favorite Mastodon app on both iOS and Android with a beautiful UX design and robust features set that put it in a league all its own.
