😠Meta just showed off Threads’ fediverse integration for the very first time😠
  • By moving to fediverse, we already left them behind. We're being followed.

  • 😠Meta just showed off Threads’ fediverse integration for the very first time😠
  • My concern with this (and other attempts like it) is that the initial integration will of course be done with good intentions by a team who shares the values of the community. And then they will get promotions or move to other jobs within two years and leave the technology to whims of revenue-generating part of the organization who will be merciless with it.

In terms of damage to the community, it'll be impossible to talk to the people you want to with ten thousand spamming robots separating you.

  • By all means, if you can find that job, take that job, and get your share of the system. Just be super careful that you're not making someone else's job harder in the process. Like, if this job is on the edge of software development, you have a ton of stressed out and resentful people who will see to it you get you fired if your being there is creating unnecessary work for them. Copy and pasting a password into an email turns into people having to spend several hours creating and deploying the new passwords.

  • I've been on giant, corporate owned services for so long, I kinda forgot what it's like to be out in the cottage industry of small websites.

  • Seriously, what's up with big sites literally dying as we speak?
  • The infinite growth ended. COVID moved everyone online that it could. There's no new people to move online, so there's no future growth to promise, and they have to make money off of their existing userbase.
