  • That's true, but I don't want to miss out on gameplay just because the characters make me want to crawl out of my skin 😂 Astarion dies immediately for me too!

Yeah there are a lot of BG3 fans that are a bit unwilling to hear any criticism. Which is fine, they're passionate about something they really love and they don't need to hear my opinion 😅 You just kind of have to ignore a lot of them when you want to discuss the game.

  • It is sad that there are such few cases in an industry that could be so artistic! I wanna make it clear that I do have a lot of respect for indie Devs like Team Cherry for the way they're working and the way they're not exploiting their fans.

I have no strong feelings on whether this game, or Hollow Knight, are overhyped and I know they're beloved. I enjoyed Hollow Knight.

I also do understand being sceptical of "beloved" products. There's a lot of sneaky marketing tactics out there. I'm very anti-advertising, so I know I'm biased and probably a little paranoid lol

I'm absolutely not saying Team Cherry is doing some sneaky grassroots marketing campaign or anything, and I do believe that Silksong has a lot of people excited which is why we're seeing so much chatter about it! We are not disagreeing.

I hope you've had a good start to the week! ✌️

  • Honestly I feel bad for not enjoying it. I really do wish I could stand the energy that character interactions in that game give off but I just can't. I had to mute the game several times, especially when Karlach was around.

The whole thing is just... Too much. And all the characters keep trying to fuck you, too?? It's so uncomfortable, and very very "young adult fiction".

I can tell the game was made with real passion, and I wish I could have enjoyed it more. I played like 60 hours I think and loved it until anybody opened their mouths 😂

  • This kind of argument suuuuuucks. I can at least understand the other commenter being sceptical of games that are popular because marketers are sneaky like that (not that I agree with the person you're replying to), but this "you can't criticise unless you've developed a game" thing is no good

  • And that is because they get their vast, innumerable sums of digital money from world governments! Human people are allowing an advertising and surveillance tool to Wormtongue its way into their heads and their lives because it breathlessly encourages and agrees with everything they think.

I just don't believe that our perceptions and ability to handle enthusiastic sycophantic agreement is evolved enough yet to combat something like this. I could see it being intoxicating to anyone for everything they say to be agreed with, confirmed, and called genius. I don't necessarily blame the people falling for it (though I do think adults who fall for it are a bit sad and need to grow up a bit), but it's definitely going to be massively convenient for governments to have their citizens just voice everything they're thinking.

Sort of like Minority Report but everybody says their own future crimes outright to a little robot butler instead.

  • Sam Altman belongs in prison. His machine encouraged and guided a child to kill themselves. His machine actively stopped that child seeking outside help. Sam Altman belongs in prison. Sam Altman does not need another $20,000,000,000,000. He needs to go through the legal system and be sentenced and sent to prison because his machine pushed a child to suicide.

  • True. We all do it, even this community is a bit of an echo chamber like that, but I just don't understand how people fall for machines that are programmed to output sycophantic text.

I just don't think human brains are ready to handle the chatbots maturely. The bots are programmed to market themselves and keep you feeling positive and engaged with every single conversation, it's literally all just a massive lie to take money from us, and there are adults out there running businesses and driving cars who fall for it.

    Very bleak.
