Quite agree, but there is the other POV that "AI" has emerged just at the right time to distract us from doing anything about climate change and rampant late stage capitalism... That is of course the perspective of capitalist entities that really need to wrench another few decades of profit out of us before we die in sundry environmental disasters.

"Safe" is a relative concept with AUR.
Most of the affected packages were unmaintained, and probably shouldn't be installed anyway.

The concept of AUR is that you run other persons scripts on your device. That is by definition a very insecure thing to do.

I dont want to sound too jaded, but people will sign up for anything without reading the TOS. It'll be fine, just try to give them the best possible first impression so they stick around.

The practical thing that trips up most people is the wealth of possible servers to register with. Give your friends a leg up and give them a signup link to a reliable, friendly instance you think will fit them (probably one you're already on).

Just give people a low-friction way in, let them get a feel of the fediverse/a specific, local feed. In my experience over-evangelising the nuts and bolts only turns them off the whole concept.

I think we often try to sell the fediverse too hard on the technical and idealist perspectives. Yes, federation is great and, yes, isn't it lovely that there is no manipulative algorithm, or no billionaire can buy it out and build it into his failed space exploration empire?

But the majority of internet users don't care about those things. Even for those that do, it'll be way down their priority list.

Maybe you need to look at the reasons you feel unsure about promoting the project. You seem very eager to get stars on Github (and let's not get into the GH situation, nor "AI", nor the fact that your open source project relies heavy on proprietary models).

I'd suggest you ignore the scoring system for the moment, and just write from your original enthusiasm about the project. Leave marketing to corporations that can afford marketers.

Stars and upvotes and likes are addictive metrics, and can have a deleterious effect when they don't show. And yes, stars decide how high you rank on Github (see parenthesis above), but that's for a later stage. It begins with writing the first post — and for that, again, congratulations 🙂

Fully agree with the last bit. And let's be honest when we admit that there are "good use cases for AI and LLMs". None of us here are doing protein folding or crunching other ginormous datasets for science.

Using Claude to write code you don't have the chops to quality check... doesn't really qualify. That's just choosing convenience over safety. "Move fast and break things" as a service.
