Which bike? Salsa Warbird CF vs Canyon Grail CF SL 7?
  • I like it, but it's a complicated answer. First, I really like it as I'd been away from any kind of cycling for some years and this was one of the first bikes that had fit me for some time (not a weird size or anything, I was just riding old bikes I'd outgrown or second hand). For the price point, it was a great reintroduction.

I've had mine for a year in mid-August. I ride ~50mi/wk on a combo of paved multi use tail, gravel roads, and single track. At the moment, it's my only bike and because of that I'm also taking it places it probably shouldn't go, like rough/rocky single track. But...at the lower cost, that's something I'm more willing to do with that bike than say a $3k carbon gravel bike.

I see a lot of people out on more expensive bikes that look barely used and I'm keeping up with them just fine.

I have put some work and money into this, but nothing too outside to norm for maintenance in a year's time - standard saddle and pedal swap, tires, replaced the brake cables and re-wrapped the handle bars in the process.

I recently had a spoke break on a ride, and I think that's kind of turned my attention to wishing that there were just better components as a whole on the bike. Things like hydraulic disc vs mechanical would be nice.

However much I'd love to have a better gravel bike though, my focus is on getting a mtn bike again as I think I'm currently just treating this bike too rough. I've just found I'm really enjoying riding again and want to do it all.

If you're not sure how much you'll actually ride gravel, I'd say it's worth checking out. I believe their current line addresses some of the issues people have had with brake cables and they've moved to thru-axle as more standard, but I honestly haven't kept up with them much. It's been great for my all-around use. You just may find yourself wanting an upgrade if you get into riding gravel. But if not, at least you haven't overspent.

    Hope that helps!

Frozen beef and bean burrito, Frank's red hot, cilantro
  • While I work from home during the week, I have frozen burritos almost every day. They're super cheap and not bad.

To elevate mine to the next level, I first microwave them in a ceramic baking dish (little single serving size that you might have baked pasta in) until they're a little less than done. Then top them with some cheese and green (or red) chili and pop that in the toaster oven for like 5-7 min. If available, throw some sour cream, guac, and lettuce on after taking them out of the toaster and viola! 🧑‍🍳

Do you agree with DirtFish’s rankings for last weekend's outing in Portugal for the Rally1 drivers?

It was great to see Tanak do so well finally. He's had some rotten luck the past few seasons and deserves to be in the title fight just as much as Evans and Neuville.

While they didn't podium this time around, I continue to be impressed with how Adrian Fourmaux is handling is role as nearly the sole point-scorer for M-sport month after month.

What are you listening to RIGHT NOW?
  • My kid is playing their guitar in their bedroom - I can't make out the song, but it sounds like they're just noodling around at the moment. Dog is panting as we just got back from a walk. Constant whir of the fan.

  • What is an obscure piece of media or videogame that you think nobody else here has heard of?
  • I love stuff like that. I've got demo tapes and 7" records from local punk bands from the 90s. Some were kids from my school or kids I used to skateboard with.

A lot of it is just rubbish, but it means something to me. I'll put a few songs on every couple of years, laugh at the hand-drawn artwork, reminisce, and sing along.

Pretty sure there's very few, if any, other copies of some of that stuff around anymore.

  • Activision wants to recommend games to you based on the livestreams you watch
  • Is this really a problem for people - not knowing about new game releases? Especially for things you may already be interested in watching outside of a video game? If someone is a fan of sports, racing, etc. it seems they can find new releases in those genres pretty easily already.

The article mentions creating a custom game or in-game items based on the content... Wow, great - more in-game hats. And I bet that generated game is going to be top quality.
