Rolio 0.9 Update
  • Yep to all of that! I took a bunch of keys off my Moonlander after I got used to it, but I put them all back on when I passed it along to my kid. Learning to use a split keyboard is enough cognitive load on its own; further optimization can come later (and is super individual!).

  • The chair’s cover has a zipper underneath, and it just occurred to me I could stick magnets in the arms, under the fabric, so my keyboard can attach to the chair. 🎉
  • My keyboard was made to be used this way! https://www.zsa.io/voyager/

I have a trackpad on my lap desk, though, and for that I used Velcro, because yep.

  • Rolio 0.9 Update
  • Having had a full numpad on one of my layers for the last few years, I hate having to stretch my fingers all weird to hit 6, for instance, when using my laptop's keyboards with a number row.

And with the AR glasses I can just recline and putter away on the three virtual monitors on my ceiling. 😎

My Moonlander became a big sister yesterday!
  • Just the Voyager by itself is 419g.

  • My Ultra-Ergo Keyboard Setup
  • You’re welcome! Yeah, the magnetic base plate on the Voyager was really tipped me into buying it, since otherwise it’s so similar to the Moonlander. I did add MagSafe stickers to the base of the Moonlander to use with the tripod mounts, and that worked well, but it wasn’t quite as amazingly adjustable and the magnetic attraction was sufficiently strong but not as strong as the Voyager’s.

  • Keywell based keyboards not working for me...
  • For me it’s all about major tenting—like nearly 90 degrees—to keep my wrists in a neutral “handshake” position. Having my wrists rotated to be use a keyboard that’s facing straight up gives me carpal tunnel. You could try tenting your Sofle or Kyria to see if that helps.

  • Okay, I've updated the post with lots more pictures and details at the end, including links to the all the bits and pieces. 😊

  • Where are the cute keycaps for Choc switches?
  • Ah, darn. Thanks for checking into this!

  • Where are the cute keycaps for Choc switches?
  • There are not nearly as many options for choc keys, particularly if you are mainly interested in ascetics.

Yeah, that's the impression I've been getting. Thanks for the links!

  • That's so, so cool! At the moment I'm looking for more of the pre-designed sets like I linked to, but I'm bookmarking this for future needs. 😊

  • Interview: Quentin Lebastard
  • I opened this bracing for a condescending tech bro, and that couldn't be further from what the interview was actually like! As a Developer Advocate and documentarian, I especially appreciated this bit:

Finally, because I’m creating keyboards that are going to be built by multiple people with different backgrounds in DIY, I need to make sure the process goes smoothly. This means that during the design process, the 3d and electronic parts have to be made in a way where it’s expected there will be mistakes. It can and will happen that the screw inserts are not installed properly, the components are installed in reverse, there are shorts and cut traces and burnt plastic. People will make mistakes, and I need to work on making those mistakes less likely to happen, but also make sure that the keyboard is easy to fix.

This is so important, yet so infrequently prioritized. 👏

  • Where are the cute keycaps for Choc switches?

I've only seen solid-color keycaps for Chocs, and I'd love to get some cute ones like there are for Cherry MX switches. I'm thinking of sets like Bubble, Castle Idol, Honey Milk, and Witch Girl. Do sets like these exist for Choc switches?

How do I download the app?
  • OMG, how embarrassing. Didn't read closely enough!

Edit: mea culpa, didn't read closely enough

  • What does Bluesky have that Mastodon doesn't?
  • I mean, even Neil Gaiman is far more active on Bluesky than he is on Mastodon, even though probably a greater proportion of his fans are on Mastodon, and he was on Mastodon well before Bluesky. So he's getting something from Bluesky that he isn't getting from Mastodon, and that's noteworthy.

  • What does Bluesky have that Mastodon doesn't?
  • Yep. I love and use lists on Mastodon, but I'd love to have the custom algos as well.
