One of the remarkable things is that a placebo still works even if you know it's a placebo.
It's dark so requires torches (more than one as a backup) and very easy to get disoriented. You can easily get lost and run out of air. Risk of being blinded by silt even with a torch, leading to more risk of disoriented and getting lost. If anything goes wrong such as equipment malfunction then you don't have the option of going to the surface as you do in open water (albeit with the risk of a bend). It's often cramped with places to get stuck, snag equipment, or get tangled in your guideline. There are sharp rocks you can hit your head on.

The longer you keep fighting back, the more you will keep being hit. We can't seem to stop the bully without you getting hurt more, so just be a good little boy and hand over your lunch money peacefully. And when the bully demands the contents of your backpack, hand that over to avoid more bloodshed. And when he demands your hat, hand that over too. You don't want to keep getting hurt, do you?
Equality doesn't necessarily mean treating the exact same. For example equality for somebody in a wheelchair might mean giving them equal access to a place by installing a ramp, not giving them the same access via the stairs as those who don't need a wheelchair use.
You can acknowledge differences and do different things with those in mind to attain equality.
