What's it like working night shift?
  • So wondering if you mean 2nd or 3rd shift. And for those wondering 1st shift is the "day" shift. Where your start time is ~8 AM and then you end ~3 PM. Then 2nd shift is where you start at ~3 PM and end at 11 PM. And then finally 3rd shift is where you start at ~11 PM and end at 8 AM.

As you can see there is a BIG difference between 2nd and 3rd shift and what someone might call a "night" shift.

  • Imgur links suck
  • Yep it is super annoying atm. Getting to where Reddit + RES was for any Fediverse frontend would be my ideal, but I know that is likely a bit away yet.

However currently Imgur links require me do multiple click/page loads to see anything with Kbin and right now that sucks because there are a fair amount of posts that link to them. And saying, well people should just use X/Y/Z to host it instead is a bad solution. The solution should always be to make X/Y/Z a better/easier hosting option while still supporting other hosts.

  • 3rd party app for Reddit, Boost, is still functioning well after July 1st
  • While Reddit might be fine it also could go down the same path as Yahoo, AIM, or Twitter. Either dying a slow death or ending up a shell of what it once was.

Hell even Slashdot still limps along, a shell of what it what it was before everyone moved from it to Reddit. For large ranges of "fine" I'm sure Reddit will fall into some category for some time at least.

  • Cyberpunk 2077 was “better than it was received,” CDPR dev says
  • Yeah, this smacks of some PR spin. Now that some time has passed between the games release they want to fix their tarnished image.

I mean not only was the performance just awful across platforms, the game itself was only OK. It looked pretty but the gameplay was not at all what they promised.

We'll see how many outlets get paid and or suckered into this blatant PR move to try and retcon how bad they screwed up.

  • Reddit's response about the actions they took against the subreddits (note: r/mildly interesting DID NOT encourage nsfw content and their suspensions and removal have been revoked by a diff admin)
  • I agree, memes are fun but they won't keep a site alive. Reddit had it all which is what made it so compelling. You could catch up on some news between the memes while still keeping tabs on the current meta for Hearthstone.

When I "left" Slashdot for Reddit it was the depth of the site that made it so interesting. Slashdot was just people who were commenting on articles vs Reddit that had whole communities based on just about everything.

Reddit may recover to a degree but once the 3rd party apps fully die and people are forced to suffer the Reddit built app alone on mobile I think we will really start to see what kind of trends will emerge.
