Blade and Sorcery: Nomad version 1.0 is now available, bringing an impressive sword-fighting game to its full release on Quest.
The default icon now supports iOS dark & tinted app icons :)
PC version seems to be well received. You can return the game up until 2 weeks and <2h play time, so it might be a good idea to grab it shortly before full release and then return it if you don’t like the update.
Months after the PC VR's 1.0 update, Blade and Sorcery: Nomad is finally getting a full launch on standalone headsets next week.
> A few months ago, Blade and Sorcery's PC version received its 1.0 update, with no launch date for the standalone Nomad in sight. After months of hard work, developer Warpfrog is bringing the 1.0 content to Blade and Sorcery: Nomad, alongside the launch of Citadel, which has been a PC-exclusive map for years. > > The 1.0 update adds Crystal Hunt, a progression game mode for those seeking a campaign-based mode. There's also the introduction of skill trees, more spell combinations, and plenty of exciting skills to use for the first time.
Disney is taking cues from another Netflix move.
> Presumably, the company is making this change to stop Apple from taking a cut of new subscription revenues for Disney Plus and Hulu. However, if you already subscribe to those services through Apple, Disney says you’ll still be billed through Apple.
I guess it mostly means elbows. I’ve also heard that upper body tracking could be used for something like walking direction, but afaik not a single game is actually using that (there’s 3 or 4 games that use upper body tracking at all).
Bonelab plans to implement the inside-out upper body tracking of Quest 3 & 3S, describing it as "the most game changing feature of VR hardware since tracked controllers in 2016".
> Stress Level Zero's Brandon J Laatsch described inside-out body tracking as "the most game changing feature of VR hardware since tracked controllers in 2016", and said "Other hardware players either need to step up and develop it or concede the space to those who do because it will create an insurmountable divide." […] > > IOBT shipped in December. However, almost a year later it's still only used by a tiny handful of standalone apps, including Swordsman VR, Drunkn Bar Fight, XRWorkout, and FastHands. In fact Meta's own new avatar system doesn't even use IOBT.
Meta finally released a Quest UI kit for Unity, meaning developers can easily build interfaces that feel cohesive with Horizon OS.
> But until recently, the only way to build XR apps for Meta's headsets was with a game engine, such as Unity or Unreal, and Meta didn't provide any kind of UI framework for either. This is why many apps on your iPhone use the system design language, while every app on Quest, even the most basic experiences, the UI feels completely different, often custom-made by the developer or imported from the Unity Asset Store. > > Meta has finally released a solution to this. It's called the Horizon OS UI Set, part of v69 of the Meta XR Interaction SDK for Unity, and provides Unity developers with the components to build interfaces that feel cohesive with Horizon OS.
Shiftall opened preorders for a new MeganeX superlight "8K" after failing to ship the previous two MeganeX headsets it announced.
> The selloff came just weeks after Shiftall announced a new headset, MeganeX superlight, after failing to deliver the original MeganeX it teased in 2022 and said it would ship in 2023. > > And as unbelievable as it may sound, Shiftall is doing it again. It won't actually be shipping the MeganeX superlight it announced earlier this year, and instead opened preorders for a new "MeganeX superlight 8K".
Walkabout Mini Golf is now a top selling iPhone game as well.
> We've seen free apps like Rec Room achieve a large install base outside VR, but Walkabout Mini Golf may be one of the first to make the leap from VR to iPhone as a paid app featuring private rooms for multiplayer connecting to all major VR headsets.
Super excited for the full release. It’ll be flooded by 5 year olds, but as I understand it they plan on having custom stations and a level editor. I wouldn’t be shocked if this ends up being more popular than gorilla tag, with a more active competitive scene than Echo VR. But we‘ll have to wait and see.
Meta has aggressively expanded its VR game portfolio with the acquisition of nine VR studios since 2019. We take a look what’s come of these deals over the last five years. Acquisition by Meta usually means a few things. Sometimes it means studios get a ton of new resources and the sort of stability...
> While many of these studios continue to deliver content, outside of Batman: Arkham Shadow, we’re still largely waiting to see what’s next. And although you’d expect Meta to keep the exclusive games coming at a regular pace, there are a few factors at play that suggest Meta may actually be slowing down, rather than speeding up its push for VR content. > > Firstly, the games industry as a whole is feeling the effects of the economic downturn, partially spurred by rapid post-COVID inflation and war-driven energy disruptions. Layoffs are a regular occurrence, and we don’t expect the headlines to change any time soon. Notably, Meta hasn’t acquired any VR studio since 2022.
We recently asked Meta if it trains AI on photos and videos that users take on the Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses. The company originally didn't have much to
> In a previous emailed statement, a spokesperson clarified that photos and videos captured on Ray-Ban Meta are not used by Meta for training as long as the user doesn’t submit them to AI. However, once you ask Meta AI to analyze them, those photos fall under a completely different set of policies. > > In other words, the company is using its first consumer AI device to create a massive stockpile of data that could be used to create ever-more powerful generations of AI models. The only way to “opt out” is to simply not use Meta’s multimodal AI features in the first place.
I’m sure there’s feedback to be gained by actually releasing something, but I bet they’d like more people to actually use it. But yeah, it doesn’t look like there’s tons of apps being developed for it. They do keep reiterating how many companies are using it. Curious what their next version will look like.
It does help by building out the ecosystem though and getting feedback for future versions. And it exists, which is more than can be said about Orion.
Here's why, contrary to the hot takes, Meta's Orion AR glasses prototype doesn't render headset lines like Apple Vision and Quest obsolete.
> By the time AR glasses with the field of view of Orion ship to consumers, passthrough headsets will be sleek, light, and powerful, with passthrough quality that may rival transparent optics, and virtual object quality that far exceeds them. > > To put it simply: incredible mixed reality headsets will arrive before acceptable AR glasses. […] > > The future is AR glasses, yes. But it's mixed reality headsets too. And unlike AR glasses, mixed reality headsets are here right now, and both the hardware and software is getting better every year.
Quest users can cast their in-game view to a TV, a mobile phone, and even to their friends and family on Facebook Messenger now. According to a recent marketing image uncovered by serial leaker and data miner Luna, it may soon also include support for WhatsApp too. An update earlier this month allow...

Horizon Worlds creators will be able to add AI NPCs to their worlds next year, and you'll be able to talk to them with your voice.
> Meta says AI NPCs are multiplayer by default, and creators will be able to customize both their appearance and voice.
You can play it in vr or flat as I understand it
Nearly two years ago, Meta announced that Quest’s social space, Horizon Home, would allow users to watch YouTube videos together—something we’ve been wishing was easy to do in VR for a long time. Excitement waned, however, when the feature never actually made it out the door. Now the company says so...

I’ve opened a Pull Request for this. They’re not perfect, but probably better than not having anything at all.
Games inspired by ‘The Backrooms’ Internet lore are usually pretty scary, but PC game POOLS (2024) has a different way of getting under your skin. No monsters. Just pools. And soon, you’ll be able to play in VR. Developer Tensori is bringing VR support to Pools soon, which is slated to arrive as a f...
Unity has canceled the controversial Runtime Fee, though Pro and Enterprise subscriptions will receive price hikes.
> Exactly one year later after the controversial policy was initially revealed, it's now being scrapped "effective immediately." In a new statement, CEO Matthew Bromberg confirmed that the Unity Game Engine will revert back to a seat-based subscription model, which means one person can use an individual subscription across limitless devices.
Haha with that cover it could be "Zuckerberg is funding a puppy orphanage" and people would still downvote it
Following last year's Quest launch, VR fantasy co-op action game Dungeons of Eternity will reach Steam later this year.
After a long neck-and-neck race, Quest 3 overtakes Valve Index to become the second most used PC VR headset.
> After months of neck-and-neck competition, Quest 3 overtakes Valve Index to become the second most popular PC VR headset. […] > > These numbers could be natural fluctuations. However, it is likely that some users have switched to Quest 3 from the much older devices, especially since Quest 2 has been sold out for some time and the full Valve Index kit still costs twice as much as Quest 3.
A Raspberry Pi 400 keyboard PC pairs well with Meta Quest HDMI Link.
> A PC built into a keyboard without a display, like the Raspberry Pi 400, starts making a lot of sense with Meta Quest HDMI Link running on the most popular standalone VR headsets. > > The Raspberry Pi 400 is a roughly $70-$100 keyboard with a Raspberry Pi 4 PC inside. The keyboard PC features a pair of Micro HDMI ports for display, a USB-C port for power in and three USB-A ports for attached devices. > > Paired with a VR headset like Quest 3, I've used retractable USB-C cables to make the connections more manageable between keyboard, power, and headset. The setup is completed with a mess of USB hubs, micro HDMI to HDMI adapter and a Shadowcast 2 capture card.
Don Hopper gives his first impressions on becoming the Dark Knight in Batman: Arkham Shadow for Meta Quest 3
> Batman: Arkham Shadow shows immense potential. The atmospheric quality of the environment, excellent voice acting, and engaging use of gadgets and overall narrative are set to immerse you in Batman's world like never before. Combat may prove divisive, especially among VR enthusiasts who prefer less scripted experiences, but it stands as a sincere homage to the Arkham legacy. Batman: Arkham Shadow is shaping up to be a must-play for VR gamers and Batman fans alike and we’ll keep you updated with more insights as we get closer to launch day, so stay tuned!
This has been the hope for many Echo VR players after Meta shut it down a year ago. I can’t wait for them to open it up to the public.
I‘m glad you like it, I wasn’t sure what people were going to think but the old one looked very dated :)
I‘m probably wrong, I thought it was in the video, but it says "upgrade from the original", so you’re probably right. Makes this an even better deal since the dlcs are even more expensive than the upgrade then
You can also play different instruments together with others. I like that idea.
I think they said "starting at $10", maybe it also depends on how many dlcs you own, since the remake has them all? Not sure though. But at 5 bucks is definitely worth trying this.
The don‘t seem to understand that announcing games when they’re very far from ready isn’t a good idea, half of what they tease never sees the light of day.
Really enjoyed that game on Quest. The movement feels nice, it has some interesting levels and gameplay (including bosses), and has a nice length as well. Definitely recommend checking it out.
Yeah, but both for a regular chair that rotates and this one that shouldn’t be the issue, since you’re actually turning. I think I initially got sick because of the "walking forward in game and swiveling around in real live".
It definitely looks like an interesting idea, but yeah it could be really bad. Perhaps it does work though, in that case it‘s mix of sitting and physically turning. I guess we’ll see
Not entirely sure if this helps with motion sickness or makes it worse. When I first started playing VR I was too exhausted to keep standing and used a rotating chair for a bit, which pretty much instantly made me sick.
That was basically the only time I got sick, I don’t have an issue with loopings, flying, etc. Could just be that I wasn’t as used to it yet though.
In addition to what Emotet said, I‘d add that no matter how closed or open the platform is (and it isn’t even as closed up) no one outside of Lemmy will care as long as it’s a compelling package.
