I'm thinking of buying a Lenovo Duet 3 for running linux. Which device would have better compatibility?
  • I have had two Lenovo models as my last two laptops, including the one I'm on now which is a Yoga 9i. I have buyers remorse so much for both of these and stupidly got pulled in by low prices and a long list of features. They're slow, unupgradable, both had issues where i needed to send them back for repair as they turned off randomly which was very frustrating with lots of lost work, and then lots of time without the laptop..

    I think after thinkpads their overall quality has hit the pan

    There's 23 pages of people with these issues and very little support from Lenovo on this thread: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-S-Series-ThinkPad-Yoga-and-Twist-Laptops/Lenovo-Yoga-9i-keeps-freezing/m-p/5087025 And another 3 pages here: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-Yoga-Series-Notebooks/Laptop-randomly-turns-off/m-p/3840927?page=3

  • What're some of the dumbest things you've done to yourself in Linux?
  • Was your project folder synced via nextcloud?? I had a similar issue arise with my projects folder being deleted and not in the trash bin etc, can only think nextcloud was the culprit as I had removed the folder from my server and default behaviour must be to replicate that removal locally.

  • Data centre power use 'to surge six-fold in 10 years' due to boom in artificial intelligence (AI) and quantum computing, National Grid predicts
  • The video you posted is from 2022, the same lady has another one from 9 days ago and 13 days ago which are much less anti

    Going by this timeline wonder how her content will be framing quantum computing in the next couple of years

    haha let alone what she'd be posting or quantum computing will be able to do within your /the OP's article's 10 year timeline

  • Android users switched less frequently to iPhones in 2023, report shows
  • i got an iphone in november to try it out and play with lidar etc. I had buyers remorse pretty quickly and now months later have had enough of the rigidity and am returning it for an android phone. I don’t understand the hype to be honest

    An extension to make interacting with different lemmy instances easier.
    addons.mozilla.org Lemmy Link – Get this Extension for 🦊 Firefox (en-GB)

    Download Lemmy Link for Firefox. Extension to make it easy to interact with different Lemmy communities

    Lemmy Link – Get this Extension for 🦊 Firefox (en-GB)

    EDIT - the dev i forked it from added a lemmy option and is absolutely smashing it on the dev front, definitely recommend to use theirs!!

    https://github.com/driccio98/kbin-link https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/kbin-link/

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Yo FIrefox just accepted my extension which makes interaction with other lemmy instances easier.
    Chrome still tbc but Google should've accepted it by this time next week methinks.
    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-GB/firefox/addon/lemmy-link/
    https://github.com/FackJox/lemmy-link
    It adds a small icon to other instances so that you can easily open it in your own lemmy instance for interaction etc.
    !
    It's simple, rough and ready but super useful, just input your lemmy instance in settings and then enable it for all sites or just the lemmy sites you want and hey presto.
    Open for ideas, collaboration and feedback as always :)
    UX Suggestion - Instance Community Search / Subscribe
    It would be real sweet if you could paste in an instance into the community search, and see what communities they have set up and join straight from the https://lemmy.world/communities community browser UI.
    I just found out about https://feddit.uk/ earlier, and being a Brit wanted to join a bunch of the communities and had to use their feddit.uk community browser and then paste the link in one by one into lemmy.world search, and the open up the community in lemmy.world and then press subscribe.
    Or even being able to subscribe an instance could be decent, but no doubt a lot more work and resource usage constantly federating new communities across etc.
