What temperature do you keep your thermostat at?
  • 24°C in the summer

    20°C in the winter

  • [Meta] Can we ban political posts?
  • Yes please. There are many communities that have to do with politics, as you mention, and I'm so tired of seeing US politics all over everything all of the time.

  • What are the best scenes in StarWars in your opinion?
  • There are so many good ones but here are a couple that came to mind when I saw this question:

From RotJ: “Never. I’ll never turn to the dark side. You’ve failed, your highness. I am a Jedi, like my father before me.”

From ESB: "I don't believe it!" "That is why you fail." plus Yoda's "luminous beings" speech.

From Andor: Kino Loy's "one way out" monologue over the intercom during the prison break.

  • What book(s) has changed your life?
  • Stranger in a Strange Land is so good.

  • like the ones with the vanilla bean strewn about in it.

    That sounds delicious.

  • How does someone with no experience learn to make food?
  • Can you follow directions? Congratulations, you can cook! It's really not that difficult, cooking is just simple chemistry.

When I was young my mum bought me a cookbook and once a week, usually Sundays, we would make a recipe or two that were in it. Sometimes full meals, sometimes just desserts, etc. You'll learn by doing, so get yourself a cookbook or find a cooking show to watch if you're a more visual learner. Just put yourself out there and try. I believe in you.

  • Do you bite your ice cream or use your lips?
  • Second ice cream question I've seen today and it's really making me want some.

I generally eat my ice cream out of a bowl where I use a spoon but if I'm in a situation where I'm eating it out of a cone then I use my tongue.

  • Vanilla. No sprinkles or toppings or sauces of any kind, just plain old vanilla ice cream.

What a useful site! Thank you for bringing this to my attention.

  • Looking for games that will make me cry
  • Ah bummer. I'm sorry to hear TLoU didn't work for you.

FFX has been on my list for a long time now. Only FF game I’ve played is VI.

It's a great game with some really emotional moments. I enjoyed it a lot and it's a lot of people's favourite game in the series (mine is VI which you've already played).

IDK much about Life is Strange.

It's really hard to describe without spoiling anything. I mentioned in another comment that the first chapter is free on Steam so if you wanted to try it without a monetary risk then that's always an option.

  • Looking for games that will make me cry
  • It only gets better from there. 👍

In fact Chapter 1 is free on Steam (maybe on console as well but I don't have a console to check) so I encourage anyone even remotely interested to give it a shot.

  • Looking for games that will make me cry
  • Idk what it is but I was emotional for days after finishing it

Same! I played it as it was being released in 2015 (I think?) and I still find myself thinking about it every now and then. Such an experience.

I played Before the Storm and True Colours but they just couldn't compare to the first game so I'm not a big fan of them either.

  • Looking for games that will make me cry
  • These are the games that came to mind:

    • The Last of Us

    • Life is Strange

    • Final Fantasy X

    • Another recommendation for the first season of Telltale's The Walking Dead

Hopefully you haven't played these already.

  • Lemmy World is down once again.
  • That's unfortunate. Hope that they are back soon.

  • Why does Nvidia hate linux?
  • Cheers. 👍

  • Why does Nvidia hate linux?
  • Other people have already told you who Linus is but if you want some context for the image it was from a Q&A: https://youtu.be/dmfDaxYhi9I?t=2864

  • Why Mastodon?
  • Yep. I always hear "mastodon" in Walter Jones's voice.
