Post launch day chat
  • Did my app glitch or something? I installed day one, then a few hours later an update dropped with the option to pay $13 for lifetime ad-free and I immediately paid that. Now everyone's complaining it's $20?

  • Lemmies, We just reached over 10k subscribers, thank you all for helping us grow from our small humble beginning, to now the capital for US political debates and news.
  • I'm in the USA but I think it's inevitable. The USA is the single largest primarily English speaking democracy in the world. Since Lemmy.world is a primarily English speaking instance, it should be expected that an American would create a politics community first and since it's the first they just call it politics.

For example, the UK is the only country in the world where they don't put the country name on their stamps. Because they invented paper stamps first in 1840.

This is not a fight worth worrying about IMO.

New handheld game consoles will need replaceable batteries from 2027, EU says
  • IMO the law is intended to reduce consumer electronic waste, making batteries that anyone from kids to grandparents can easily replace themselves. Currently the steam deck battery isn't all that difficult to replace for the tech savvy "brave" folks who happily open up their devices and see the internals, but for most people that's not good enough. I would never expect my 68 year old mother to replace it herself. IMO the aim is to make batteries replaceable like the PS5 SSD expansion capacity is. Just need a screwdriver and a few minutes, without every feeling like you might break something. Needing anything more than that and most people won't do it out of fear they'll break their device.

But only time will tell what actually happens.

  • For the fourth day in a row, Earth has broken or equalled its hottest average temperature record
  • I used to worry about this a lot, I still do but I used to too.

Joking aside, it's a shit show that us plebians can't really do anything about but I still try. I've driven a hybrid for the last 6 years, I have a smart thermostat to try to save energy, I try to eat less meat more often. I recycle a lot more than most. I even make my own bread and nut milks and many other things which is not only cheaper and healthier (and WAY more delicious) but requires less transport related greenhouse gas emissions than buying premade breads and nut milks. Nut milk is especially better than dairy milk in that matter.

Oh yeah! And yesterday I picked up 10 large trash bags of litter: yesterday picked up 10 large kitchen trash bags

  • Meet Purrcy and Elara. 😄

Purrcy is the bigger cat with the lighter coat, we've had him longer. He was quick to adjust to Elara being brought home.

In December Elara came up to me in a parking garage as a tiny kitten and just purred against my legs, I couldn't leave her there and I'm so glad I brought her home! Purrcy is much happier with another cat around, they cuddle and wrestle all the time. 😊

Can't install search plugins on qBitorrent?

I've tried googling, nothing I'm finding is working.

I updated qBittorrent, updated Python, tried deleting the engine folder files and restarting. Everytime I try to add new search files from here it says not supported.

I try clicking check for updates and a bunch of popups appear saying "Couldn't install "(search plugin name)" search engine plugin. Plugin is not supported."

The execution log says both "not supported" and "plugin outdated, updating to version x.xxx"

    I'm at a loss here.
