  • I literally just spit some drink out my nose when I opened this thread and saw this.

    Thank you.

  • So basically Swift on macOS, except this made much more sense. 👍

  • It does when it’s the government who is making calls to cancel shows.

  • My favorite was AFTER unsubscribing from Hulu and Disney+, I got an email about an upcoming price hike:

Upcoming Hulu Price Change Dear Member, Thank you for being part of the Hulu community. We’re so glad you’ve enjoyed everything we have to offer, from blockbuster movies, to brand-new series and exclusive Originals.

As part of our continued investment in delivering world-class entertainment, the price of your Disney+, Hulu Bundle will increase to $12.99/month on your first billing cycle on or after October 21, 2025. Your plan will automatically renew at the new price unless you switch plans or cancel via Account before then.

You do not need to take any action to continue enjoying Hulu and Disney+.

    Talk about tone deaf.

Edit: the email was dated the 23rd.

  • I know about 4 phone numbers by memory:

    1. My childhood home phone
    2. My childhood best friend’s home phone
    3. My cell phone
    4. My ex-wife’s cell phone

Two of those numbers no longer work, so if I ever go to jail there is only one person I can call. 😬

  • But only for certain classes of people.

  • But everybody just wants to sit around and be sad about it instead of actually trying to make a difference.

This makes me a little indignant to read because it shows me that you understand absolutely nothing about declining mental health and how much of an impact it can have on people, their well-being, and their ability to do … things.

If fewer people had your mentality, maybe the sad, depressed, and chronically stressed out people suffering from very real trauma could get the help they so desperately deserve.

Life pro tip: when someone says they are tired, they don’t mean they’re sleepy or lazy. It means they are beaten down so hard that their only sane course of action is to simply stay down, lest they get beaten more.

  • We can at least agree on that. 🙌 😊

  • Agreed. Running government as if it’s a business is, was, and always will be a horrible position. Government services (including prisons) are not meant to be profitable. They are there to make sure basic needs are met. What’s worse is that despite any government services being funded with taxpayer money, any profit made rarely ever makes its way back into taxpayer pockets.

My state government has been running hundreds of millions of dollars in budget surpluses more often than not, and yet salaries for state employees keep stagnating and our health insurance is going up (sometimes up to 3x) for many employees.

  • If that’s the hill you want to die on, that’s your prerogative, and I won’t fault you for it. I do disagree with you, but I also appreciate your time discussing this with me and challenging my assertions.

  • That would make sense given most Starfleet ships are within a reasonable distance from maintenance outposts and known (and vetted) trading partners where restocking and fixing things is just another Tuesday.

  • Not everything needs to meet scientific rigor. If that were the case, you would’ve provided me with at least three scientific studies demonstrating your side of the argument. But you didn’t, because it’s wholly unnecessary for a normal conversation.

  • Counter argument: what if anybody could get their own cooking station, and all they had to do was requisition for it. And, maybe there are other low-profile officers who do have them, but we’ve never seen them because they weren’t the main characters? Or, no one else really cares enough about making home cooked meals, so they stick with replicators.

  • You’re focusing on the wrong part of the post. The point of the post is that despite all of these horrible (and for a lack of a better word, fixable) things going on in the world right now, people are wrongly focusing on trans people as a problem.

Also, there is such a thing as hyperbole, and it doesn’t mean that the point is invalid; instead it’s used to emphasize the point.

  • Thank you for not making me the only person to have immediately gone “there” with that title.

  • The point I’m trying to make is not about him specifically. It’s about people who, for whatever reason (regardless of whether or not you think it’s stupid or whatever your preferred adjective is) people who are grossly misinformed are not the type of people to readily admit to a mistake; especially publicly, for all to see. And if they do, we certainly don’t want to tell them that they are a worse person for not originally knowing better. That only serves to make sure that they dig their heels in further next time, and that they’ll never make the mistake of changing their point of view. And in my personal opinion we have way too many people digging their heels in on topics that really should be fluid conversations between rational adults.

And yes, there are always exceptions to the rule. That changes nothing. But in this case it’s already been pointed out that the tweets from Eric are not real to begin with. So all of this is just wishful thinking.

  • As someone going through tattoo removal, let’s just say it’s very painful and there are so many sessions you have to go through. That hours long tattoo will turn into months of removal, and those lasers burn!

  • I mean if it were real, I’d give him props for publicly acknowledging that he was misinformed and that he made a mistake. Very few people, especially in his position, would do that (sign of weakness and woke and all that bs).
