Browsing Reddit is like Groundhog Day
  • You are spot on and it's infuriating in the opposite direction. I sub to a small local city sub reddit and people will post the same question every day instead of just doing a quick search to find that their same question has been asked 20 times this month.

For a while, I was still using reddit to go to those small niche subs, but now they are garbage too

  • Browsing Reddit is like Groundhog Day
  • The comments have gotten just as bad too. Trolls and Bots everywhere. No moderation. Also, the voting system works well when it's mostly sane and intelligent people there. Now the dumbest comments get upvoted super high and any long critical, intelligent responses get downvoted to oblivion.

  • What's a simple thing others do that gets you in a really good mood?
  • I love this one. I'm usually excited for others too. I haven't taken a travel vacation in close to a decade so I love to live vicariously through others travels. Tell me everything of what you are going to do and what you are going to see. I want to hear all of it.

  • Why USA pays so well to developers (or rarher Europe pays so bad)
  • You are correct, we do on average make more here. I just don't think you realize the extent of financial parasites in talking about. I'm not just talking about government taxes. I'm talking about constant, consistent payments you have to do for being poor here for everything. There's no accountability for proper business conduct here unless you have money.

  • How do you handle / cope with stress?
  • It's very hard to do. I can only go into what helped with me but I schedule it in. Everything else in my life is basically scheduled so you have to make the time. Meditation

I meditate 30 minutes every other day. It's helped significantly. Think of it like a gym schedule and hold yourself to it. Obviously there is never enough time in the day to do everything you want but this thing is one of the most important at this point.

  • Why USA pays so well to developers (or rarher Europe pays so bad)
  • I think you have a misconception of what is like here in America. Everything else is not fine here. You aren't realizing the huge lack of safety nets and the inability to get basic funding for anyone that has no money.

That 100k loan has interest. You don't get that 200k job right out of college. You only get that if you are extremely talented, lucky, or know rich people. The vast majority of programmers here make much less and when you take out health insurance are making about the same as what you make in Europe.

Meanwhile, you have to find a way to buy a car here because you will literally die here with out one. You find a way to buy a junker for 5k (that's what they go for here). Your car breaks down after a month on the job. You just missed a day at work that they fired you for it. Now you have to find whatever job you can quick because you all have to pay that school loan, rent, food, and car repair bill. The sheer amount of financial parasites here is staggering. You end up taking a job totally unrelated to programming because the application process takes so long here and you need money in the meantime. Now you are stuck working 50 hours a week at a pointless job using any spare free time sending out applications for another job where you are just one incident away from being broke and homeless again.

  • zuck really sucking every ounce of data out of the users
  • Is that even possible?? How can the app developer not know?

Let's take location for instance. Google can send to the app no data or the location. The app developers can tell if no data is sent back.

Google would have to develop, on its own against its own financial interests, a way to send random locations to the app. The app develop is going to easily see though that this data is not correct.

So even if Google decided to invest in this for the users, the app developers are still going to know

  • Spread Out: How To Speed Up Lemmy
  • Someone explained it a little better in another post. It will not erase my content. So if I'm logged in under my lemm.ee account but post on a lemmy.world instance. If for some reason lemm.ee got defederized, my post or comments would still be there at lemmy.world I would just not be able to use my lemm.ee account going forward.

It seems like this is the way to go like OP says
