It costs much less because it's just that, vpc provider, not an accelerator or anything else but if you have the people with the skill set to take care of the ingress side of things, it's a lot more sensible in terms of expenses.

The small indie titles are what is saving my passion for gaming since quite some time now. It's also what's saving my wallet as usually they focus on good gameplay more than flashy presentation which helps in not having to spend a ton on a "competitive" hardware.

I feel like it's not a matter of which side and more if the position that someone tries to advertise is clearly lacking empathy or consideration towards others.

This is not how it's been used for the vast majority.

Companies and big communities use it as a forum, sharing knowledge more or less important.

For example, i dabble in modding games, nowadays i need to join a game discord server and ask there hoping that someone is kind enough to repeat for the nth time something asked already, probably several time a week.

Most often than not, you don't get an answer due to several factors, one of which is that if you ask when the people that can help are not online, nobody answer really.

On a forum you could have searched your question and find some answer anyway.

THAT is a very big problem. Knowledge is walled in and the search provided is the equivalent of digging in the sand with a spoon.

Discord is a chat and the default setting of every server is that to see the content of it, you need to join the server.

It make sense for a chat.

However, companies and communities have largely misused discord and basically turned it in forums.

Lots and lots of knowledge is spread on these chats with no way of finding it unless you know which server to join and provided they do not shut down at some point.

On top of that, the discord search feature is barebone at best.

This is the problem with discord.

I heard about "guilded" but i don't have direct experience.

An extra thumbs up for mullvad vpn from me. It's a bit more costly than the mainstream ones but you don't have to subscribe to any plan. Just pay month by month, absolutely no personal data needed.

Discord is not even remotely comparable and whoever think that it is (not saying you OP) don't understand the basics on how internet works.

To put it simply:

You can't search the content of a discord server on the publicly available internet. You need to be on discord and for that, the server need to continue to exists. To top it all, things you might search are written all over the place (channels, threads, etc) and the search is clearly the search is a "chat" search, as it should be, thus terrible to actually find what you need.

I see your point but just for the sake of discussion, try and change "refugees" with "people".

You should notice how all the other considerations simply are not worth the electricity used to transmit them on your screen.
