Hobbies Wednesday - what have you done this week?
  • How old are those boots and what kind of work do you wear them for?

  • How do you clean your smart watch?
  • +1 for alcohol. I have a small smartwatch and I clean it with a tissue and alcohol. I use a toothpick to poke the damp tissue into any crevices, and also into each hole in the band. It's gross how much dirt and grime gets stuck in those holes.

  • Tea versus Coffee
  • Interesting. I enjoy both coffee and tea, but I also take tea as a cure for a stomach ache.

  • A New Reality Show Will Pay Cash if Players Can Convince Experts the Earth Is Flat
  • Photos won't convince people like that because they'll just think it's all fake. I suspect even if we all pitched in to buy them a trip into space, they still would think it was all fake -- screens instead of windows, like an amusement park virtual reality ride.

  • Hearts and lungs are for losers.
  • Ears are for losers.

  • Dr Disrespect Knowingly Sent Explicit Messages to a Minor, Former Twitch Employee Says
  • Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I thought that whole look is his "disguise" only for when he's operating as the persona Dr. Disrespect.

  • Why do the vast majority of romantic comedies depict people who are wealthy?
  • I don't watch a lot of romcoms but one that I've seen and like is "While You Were Sleeping." It starts out like how you describe but then there's a little twist to it and she ends up with the bluecollar guy.

  • Astronomy
  • They blinded OP with science!

  • Fluffed the pillows?

  • It's Tuesday, what made you happy last week
  • I love your attitude and the connections you make. I have a tendency to be chatty with strangers too, but I get paranoid about safety. Like if I were with my husband making our way through a train and some random guy started chatting us up, we both would wonder if it's a lead-up to a scam.

  • What's the keyboard app for android with the most accurate swipe to type?
  • I have the same frustrations. It used to work great but lately it randomly capitalizes words and fails miserably at recognizing what I'm swyping.

Also, it has something against the word "Tuesday" "today" (see it did it again) and always defaults to "Tuesday."

  • anyone had luck with these fly-by night cell carriers?
  • I've been using Google Fi since 2016. When I worked from home, my bill was $25-$35/mo. I work outside the home now and my bill has been higher, so thanks for the reminder I should probably look into switching.

  • It's Tuesday, what made you happy last week
  • I have a couple of questions...

Were the two friends you visited on your 55km bike route and that's when you saw them?

What's the context for approaching the 4 strangers?

  • What industry secret are you aware of that most people aren't?
  • Thanks for sharing! That was really cool. I'm going to be looking out for those from now on.

  • What industry secret are you aware of that most people aren't?
  • Can you share the address of a specific one? (Does it count as doxxing if nobody lives in it?)

  • Sweet dreams, Miez
  • I love the twitches and murmurs!

  • His pupils get so big when he's lovey
  • Some cats will even lift a paw to pull your hand (the direct source of pets) towards them.

  • Murphy (20ish) doesn't know he's geriatric.
  • I'ma need a pic of these kitties in the stroller.

  • Murphy (20ish) doesn't know he's geriatric.

He still gets the zoomies and crazies. Energizer Murphy -- he just keeps on going.

"The sun...it burnssss us!" -Squinty McMurphy

We keep our oldmancat Murphy in his room at night; otherwise, he'll howl at our bedroom door at an ungodly hour, begging to be fed. His room stays pretty dim, so when we let him out in the morning, he always gives us this squinty face. <3

A plus side to old Murphy being deaf

We had new floors put in today and Murphy was oblivious to the noise that would otherwise stress out a hearing cat.

How I packed up my plants for a 17-hour road trip

I gave away my only big plant, an 8-foot-tall bird of paradise. The rest needed repotting anyway, so I took them all out of their pots and buried the roots in a roughly 50/50 mixture of moist potting soil and perlite in a plastic crate.

I had a Philodendron micans on a tall moss pole. I took it off the moss pole, wrapped the roots in a damp paper towel, stuffed that portion into a Ziploc bag, and stuffed the whole thing into a clear plastic bag, loosely sealed.

I did the same thing to a Madagascar jasmine plant that had been vining around a bamboo arch.

Finally, I placed some smaller plants in a smaller plastic container with moist perlite.

Sadly, I had to give all my pots away. There just wasn't enough room or time to carefully pack everything. We were already a half day late getting underway with our road trip.

I'm thankful they seem to have all survived.

    Hobbes doll

I made this some years ago for my niece who I think was around 6 years old at the time. I'm very happy with how it turned out. Sorry, I don't remember what pattern I used. I stuffed it with old socks and T-shirts that I cut into pieces.

    Philodendron micans tattoo

    2020 - I got into houseplants.

2021 - I told myself, "If I'm still into houseplants a year from now, I'm getting a tattoo of my favorite plant."

2022 - Still into houseplants, and now also into outside plants.

2023 - Got it going in August.

2024 - My last session was just last Tuesday and I still have the Saniderm on.

There are supposed to be more leaves to the right of the tiger going towards my arm, but I'm suddenly moving out of state so it's done for now, at least with this artist.

I'm also panning to get the tiger touched up and color added.

    Murphy the flop-flipper

Murphy was found in a storm drain. We guess he was just under a year old when we adopted him. This video is from two years ago when he was around 18. He's still alive today and showing no signs of slowing down.

A young family member is going on a mission

So for the rest of this day, I'll be getting texts from 17 other people responding to this prayer request.

Edit: Other than the initial flurry of hearts and replies pictured below, it's actually been pretty quiet, thank goodness.

Lemmy, have you used free software to design your dream home?

This is just for messing around to see in digital form the house that I dream of in my head. Is there a truly free one that does a decent job?

I've played with it in Sims 3 but I was wondering if there was something more realistic out there. Bonus if it's something where I could generate a noob file that a pro architect could use to base a real design on.

    Snowy day with Murphy

Got called off work on this snowy day so it's lots of lap time for Murphy. Win-win!
