  • I'm currently going through every (mainline) Zelda game and replaying them. Took a bit of a break at Links Awakening, but I'd have to say my favourite 2D Zelda are Seasons/Ages, and my favourite 3D is Majora's Mask.

Something about the worlds in those games that really draws me in.

  • I've only played FF7 for the first time recently. I'm in the process of playing FF8 right now and honestly, I care about the story and characters more in the latter. I don't know if it's an age thing, or having been spoiled for so long on FF7 plot beats but not FF8, or what. 8 seems to be striking more chords for me.

  • Interesting perspective. I thought it was his most obnoxious film to date. It was a movie that insisted upon itself and quite frankly bored and confused me. It was like no one said no to Anderson to reign him in at all.

  • I just finished OG Final Fantasy 7 for the first time. It has definitely aged, but it was quite fun and I can see why it's held such high acclaim. The controls were frustrating sometimes and it obviously doesn't look the best now, but I enjoyed my time with it. It's actually the first FF I've been able to beat. I've tried a few of the previous pixel entries, couldn't get through them.

I'll probably take a break this month and play Persona 3 Reload next month.

  • Surprised this hasn't been said more in this thread, to be honest. All it seems to be is Breath of the Wild and Soulslikes.

I've tried 3 different Monster Hunter games, I've really tried to see what people enjoy about them. But the controls are so awful, the loop is tedious, and I could never find anything good to say about them. This series truly confuses me.

  • Pretty sure they've stated Zelda games will lean closer to the two recent entries going forward, so those of us who think like this really can only cross our fingers that something resembling previous Zelda titles returns.

  • It's really one game split into two. There's some new tracks in The Lost Age, but if you weren't a fan of the first OST, the second isn't any different.

The story continues in the sequel and rounds things out a bit more. If I had to pick between the two, The Lost Age is my favourite, but you can't have that without the first.

  • I'm actually playing FF7 for the first time on a handheld emulator. I've previously tried to play FF4 and FF6 (several times) but couldn't really get too far in before giving up. I'm nearly 8 hours into FF7 now and, while it's definitely a bit dated in terms of controls (and obviously graphics), I'm having a much better time with it and as it stands, can see finishing it if it keeps going like it is. I just made it to the open world.

  • I definitely understand it's a game that pioneered a lot of concepts, so I don't necessarily blame it or think it's bad, but future games improved a lot on it to make it manageable. I don't have a problem with random battles, either. But these ones were definitely testing my patience. Thank you for the little history lesson! If I make it through FF6 I'm interested to try the 3D ones for the first time.
