  • I just didn't enjoy it. I understand and appreciate all the things it did for JRPGs and pushing them into 3D as well, but playing it for the first time it just... was not good, in my opinion. I suppose the story beats that were meant to have impact didn't since those have long since been spoiled, and controlling it was really difficult. All in all, I wouldn't play the original FF7 again. I'll probably give the new ones a try at some point.

  • As the other poster mentioned, the accessibility options will probably be able to help. But as someone that has 100% both Hollow Knight and Silksong, I couldn't get very far in Nine Sols. The parry is key and I found the timing for it incredibly brutal.

  • Alan Wake is a game that should be right up my alley.

Unfortunately, the gameplay left me wanting. I enjoyed the story for the most part, but the pacing of the game overall was strange, and other than getting light grenades, the gameplay doesn't really change much or shake anything up from the beginning to the end.

I enjoyed the world a lot more than the actual game, but I've been told it's sequel fixes some of my issues with the first game.

  • I can definitely see that if you're not expecting it to be a game, it'd be a lot more enjoyable. It's been a couple of years, so I think all I really knew about it was that it was highly rated and a platformer.

All I can say is that I'm glad I got it on deep sale, as I'd be even more furious if I paid the local price of $20 for this game.

  • The only one I can currently think of is Gris - and I say that because I can't recall buying a game that made me want to get my money back upon finishing it.

Gris is very highly rated across the board, so clearly there's something I'm missing as to why. I enjoy walking sim games every now and then, but it'd be hard for me to even call this one a game. People point to the story as being beautiful and deep, but it felt like nothing new and, for me, a bit trite. There was nothing engaging about this game to me. The worst part? It's like 3 hours long.

Sorry if whomever reads this really likes Gris. I'm glad you could enjoy it. To me, it's one of the worst recommendations I've ever received.

  • Why do we continue to give Nintendo excuses for their shitty anti-consumer practices?

If these are just because of US tariffs, why increase the price of Switch 1 consoles that are already in Canada and don't need to be shipped through the US? Why increase digital games that aren't being shipped at all? Not to mention, they opened the floodgates for the price increase in games.

  • I get the inherent value people attach to it, but after having it several times (I'd have it for a month or two and then drop it for like, a year), I would never go back to it even if it still seemed like a good deal.

For an app developed by Microsoft and working on a PC, it has some awful pathing, and I lost saves and had issues launching games on multiple occasions. Tried many fixes and it never worked out. Some games would work for me, others wouldn't. So for me, since it felt like a toss up to get a game to work, it was pointless.

  • I've spoken to others about this subject due to this and none of them have reflected the comments here. I don't even know most of the people I posed the question to. I suppose this forum (and the forums or social media these posters frequent) hold their opinion as more of a fact than I was led to believe.

Regardless, everyone can feel how they want about this. I'll just play Silksong and have fun on my end of the table.
