[Help] Pixelfed Docker Image Missing?

The github docker-compose file calls out pixelfed:pixelfed as the image, but nothing exists when trying to pull it: https://hub.docker.com/r/pixelfed/pixelfed/tags

Is there a official (or unofficial) image that should be used that is compatible with the sample docker-compose setup (and runs on ARM): https://github.com/pixelfed/pixelfed/blob/dev/docker-compose.yml

If we want this to work out make content do not just lurk
  • Also...DON'T MAKE TOO MANY COMMUNITIES!!! I know we all have our favorite niche subreddits that we'll miss, but we need to reach a critical mass with a core set...and then organically break out communities into more niche communities.

  • Definitely have backup passphrase/passkey. But is it true that (again assuming just one device) if I log out.....then later log back in with the Passkey....that messages received while signed out won't decrypt? That will be hard to explain to family.

    Basic(?) E2EE Questions

Been having issues with folks logging out...then unable to decrypt after signing in again. Even tho they use their passkey, prior messages will not decrypt as they were not logged in anywhere.

So trying to understand some use-cases:

    • If someone is only logged-in on their phone, go somewhere without a signal (e.g., plane, hiking), and then get signal again...will they be able to decrypt messages sent while they were offline (but never chose to sign-out)?
    • If NO....will they be able to decrypt prior messages they had been able to decrypt (i.e., just not the ones sent while offline)?
    • If they lose their phone (again, only source of logging in)...will they be able to backfill messages when setting up a new device with their passkey?

Sorry for the perhaps basic E2EE questions....getting traction with my family using Matrix, but worried about some spouse-acceptance concerns.

    Will Lemmy/c/politics remain civil?
  • I guess for me....folks should try to assume good intentions at the start. I often find (any/all sides) quickly put up defenses, presume the worst, and find ways to be insulted where they wouldn't have if they were also behaving in good faith. Assholes exist, but let them prove that they are first.

  • Will Lemmy/c/politics remain civil?
  • Popper's Paradox of tolerance underscores the need for thoughtful consideration, but it doesn't dismiss the importance of civil discourse. Popper himself called for the "tolerance of the intolerant" within the bounds of rational criticism highlights that while we acknowledge the limits of tolerance, engaging in respectful dialogue remains crucial. By upholding civil discourse, challenging ideas through reasoned arguments, and embracing Popper's notion, we can maintain a tolerant society while fostering understanding and progress.

  • I, too, like to think of MLK in matters such as this:

"Men often hate each other because they fear each other; they fear each other because they don't know each other; they don't know each other because they cannot communicate; they cannot communicate because they are separated."

"We must learn to live together as brothers or perish together as fools."

  • Hosted Fediverse for Family?

Do you host any Fediverse instances for family (Mastodon, etc)? Curious if you get your family to use it and what headaches when linking to other instances.

Seems like a nice way to combine group texts, picture sharing, etc

for the Reddit refugees, do you also feel a bit heartbroken?
  • I actually feel more relieved. It has become toxic and dominated by bots. As soon as a real person posts anything, it's immediately down voted

I'm enjoying Lemmy much more. Reminds me of the internet of old.

  • How much revenue were third party Reddit apps making?
  • I understand the multiple instances, but 100% agree name collisions across instances will be the biggest source of confusion. Will be curious how Lemmy tech stack and communities in general work to make this easy-ish for users.

  • How much revenue were third party Reddit apps making?
  • Interesting....they probably have financial models showing how much more they'll make and assume very few folks will actually quit using Reddit. Time will tell, but know I am already enjoying Lemmy more than Reddit at this point.

  • How much revenue were third party Reddit apps making?
  • Probably an unpopular opinion....but I do get Reddit's perspective that these apps are profiting without sharing back to Reddit who bears the costs and built the community. I wonder what conversations were had to find an equitable point for both sides and what that looked like.

  • Will Lemmy/c/politics remain civil?
  • +1. And perhaps I'm wrong -- bc terrible people do exist -- but we shouldn't let the extreme hyperbole dominate the conversation...politicians use that to divide us and the media uses it for sensationalism.

If someone wants to spew hatred, then they don't get to be part of that conversation.

  • Will Lemmy/c/politics remain civil?

I don't want right-wing fanatics...I don't want leftist fanatics...I want a place where all views can be discussed with respect and civility. /r/politics was NOT that place. I hope Lemmy can avoid the echo chamber to allow respectful disagreement and discourse to occur (while not overly defending extremists on either side).

I like to believe there is much more we agree upon than disagree....and while not always the case, sometimes we need to take a moment to ensure we aren't talking passed each other and be willing to listen to understand (even if you don't agree in the end). It's okay to disagree as long as you respect one another.

"If you want to be heard, first learn to listen." - John F. Kennedy
