Kbin.social turning federation back on "soon"
  • @solberg Correct, you can say interact with any member of my server without having to sign-up for an actual account on growers.social which might not be your cup of tea. Same as the pixelfed sites, maybe the Instagram style isn't your thing vs lemmy/kbin. You can use the content basically anywhere with your account you have now, your server just pulls it in. So in your search if you type @brysons@growers.social it *should* find me on my server.

  • @solberg @Barbarian It's more of you can message someone from somewhere else. Think of it like a mobile network, mastodon is t-mobile, kbin at&t and lemmy sprint ... you can talk to anyone you want but pay your bill in one place. Same with the fedi you have one home but can talk to anyone who federates with you or speaks your language ... in this case ActivityPub

  • If you want to host and manage your own Lemmy instance but are intimidated by the technical requirements, I can help!

It's easy from the docker from what I can tell, the bare metal / vps is a bit more as more manual pieces but nothing too crazy. I just submitted a pull request for the admin guide so that should help a bit for less head bashing... Though my instance doesn't seem to be federating so that's a new problem for tomorrow.
