Btw, I don't use Arch
  • It’s not changing the meaning of the axis though. The “required” part is implied. Could it have been made more clear? Sure. But reading learning curve into it is a little bit more of a stretch.

  • Authy got hacked, and 33 million user phone numbers were stolen
  • Even if you don’t mind your phone number getting leaked because it’s already out there I would recommend to switch away from a closed source software that requires your phone number for no good reason. Even if it’s just to send a signal that this is not ok.

  • Google's AI-powered search summaries use 10x more energy than a standard Google search | The Hidden Environmental Impact of AI
  • I wonder what the power consumption of getting to the information in the summary is as a whole when using a regular search, clicking on multiple links, finding the right information and extracting the relevant parts. Including the expenditures of energy by the human performing the task and everything that surrounds the activity.

There are real concerns surrounding AI, I wonder if this is truly one of them or if it’s just poorly researched ragebait.

  • A resource to get notified when certain open source projects change in a negative way?

I’m looking for a way to keep an eye on open source software I’m using, especially if there are detrimental changes. Like for example when there’s an acquisition (Raivo Authenticator) or the project has not been updated in a long time (potentially posing a security risk).

But I don’t want to have to read about every project, just the ones I’m using.

    Anyone got any ideas?

    Explain that, science nerds!
  • Now you’re just lobbing together people who want to distinguish what exactly it is that needs saving with climate change deniers, conspiracy theorists and antivaxxers. Seems to me you just like boxes, really big boxes, in which to put in all the thing you dislike/disagree with or whatever.

You don’t care that I disagree with almost everything on your list except for 2 things that I think are really important to be specific about.

    • “Saving the planet”, which I’ve explained
    • ”You drink water, so you’re part of the problem”, which is kind of true if you extrapolate and include it in your decision on if to have children.

Be my guest, I don’t care enough to continue this conversation beyond this point with a hammer that’s just looking for nails.

  • Explain that, science nerds!
  • Ok, let the downvotes come but I’m one of those people. And the point I’m trying to make is that the planet and life itself will survive and probably even be better off without humans.

Just look at what happened after the extinction event that killed the dinosaurs. Humans are causing the next extinction event and afterwards life will just start fresh again.

So no, saving the planet is not the goal. Saving humanity and most of all other current life is. And if that’s what you want to accomplish then that’s what you should talk about, specifically.

  • What do you think of this prediction?
  • What are you smoking? GOG Galaxy doesn’t even have a Linux client. In fact it has been one of the most requested features for years and nothing has happened.

Edit: it’s also the reason I stopped buying from them when I got my Steam Deck.

  • *Permanently Deleted*
  • The ones that fight the most are craving new, novel things and wanting to not change a damn thing about what I do every day.

That’s what media consumption is for. Movies, shows, video games… lots of novelty without getting out of the comfort zone.

  • Dedicated Authenticators from Password Manager vendors

Does anyone know why there are no dedicated Authenticator apps made by for example Proton or Bitwarden?

I’m aware that they have TOTP baked into their password managers but you still need to have at least one separate solution to log into your vault.
