..."before allowing him to enter the U.S. in 2021."......"Lakanwal applied for asylum in December 2024 and was approved on April 23 of this year, three months after Trump took office." WHICH IS IT? EDIT: oh okay i get it now. He came to the US in 2021, applied for asylum in 2024. its actually very clear and I just need more coffee.
Article reads like a NY Times hit piece aimed at dividing leftists and DSA members. DSA members held a meeting, discussed endorsements of candidates for upcoming political races, and now will vote on whether to endorse. Now, if they vote to endorse Osse and then Mamdani declines to get on board with that, then there would be a story. This is just some NYTs bullshit which is what it does best.
When you say 'Taiwan is the original government', what year are we talking here? [I am actually interested in a history discussion, I'm not trying to just be contentious] My understanding is that the current gov is only ~70 yrs old and is the remnants of the RoC. The RoC fled the mainland after losing the civil war to the commies, and then they took over the island and instituted martial law for like decades and tried to erase the indigenous peoples culture. Before that it was ruled by Japan at one point, mainland China at one point, and the Dutch at another point, i think Portugeuse were there for awhile. I dont think there was ever a united, one island government formed by the indigenous peoples. I'm not saying that Taiwan should welcome China with open arms - not at all- I'm questioning the support of their current government. As i finish writing this paragraph, I'm thinking I need to do some reading on the socioeconomics of modern Taiwan...
I agree with you. Like I told a family member who made all the same arguments the people in these comments are making: "I am not trying to tell you what you can and cannot say. I'm telling you that if I hear you use language like that, I will respect you less and I will talk to you less or not at all. " We don't talk much anymore, and thats fine.
sensationalist BBC headline makes it sound like a chip fab will span the entirety of Hokkaido. That aside, the winding down of globalization combined with a global arms buildup and a prioritized native manufacturing of semiconductors does not bode well for future peace. Clearly everyone relying on Taiwan was not good, but nobody relying on anybody might just be worse.
You presume to understand the speakers intention. The speaker is an illiterate trust fund baby child rapist. He literally does not know how magnets work and he believes he is the smartest person on the planet, therefore he thinks no one knows how they work. There is no depth to the logic.
I remember all the headlines about cloning "Dolly the sheep" years ago, then that was it. Discussion of the tech in the mainstream stopped. So I always assumed that at that point there were sketchy human trials ongoing and its just not advertised.
Yea since 1948
