RFK Jr.’s health department calls Nature “junk science,” cancels subscriptions
  • These nazi idiots are destroying US science, there is no upside. Reasonable people COULD have setup a controlled transition to some sort of public peer review and publishing system, but instead they are going to not do any of that and now RFK can continue to just post their garbage ChatGPT written fake reports on hhs sites directly.

  • So if we're just good with careening into fascism 2.0 what does the future look like?
  • there are very rich and powerful people who spend all of their 'working' time actively fighting against those things. They (clearly) would sooner support the construction of the fourth reich in america than give up profit streams like energy/housing/automotive.

  • Bad advice for scientists
  • having third-party publishers that are specifically not affiliated with any org that produces research was supposed to prevent biases in who and what gets published and provide a kind of standardized system for determining the quality of a paper / peer-review process /etc and allow for comparison across the whole scientific community. It has since been corrupted for profit takers. I am liking the idea of integrating into the public library system though..couldn't be a university library though because again, biases.

  • Capitalism ends poverty
  • I heard that recently and thought to myself 'yea I don't have a fucking boat' and realized that is the true meaning of this phrase. People who own boats already are gonna do great. People who don't will drown.

  • Zohran Mamdani says 'I don't think we should have billionaires'
  • I'm working through my own thoughts on this so please bear down with me here: If we replace the term 'billionaire' and just say 'rich' (since the 'billion' amount is incidental to the times), and replace 'money' with 'access to resources' (which is what money represents), then I would contend that the rich have access to more resources precisely because the poor have little to no access to resources. If the poor were to have access to more resources, it would then be because the rich have less access than they did prior. So I guess what I'm getting at is this: It is intolerable that they are rich, regardless of what they do with the power and access that comes with extreme wealth, because that wealth is directly the same wealth(and thus access to resources) that the poor do not have. [I'm not sure how I myself would even answer 'what level of inequality am I okay with' but I'm thinking it through]

  • Zohran Mamdani says 'I don't think we should have billionaires'
  • The pollution comes from millions of cars, an industry forced on the people through decades of lobbying and bribery to eliminate the possibility of free public transportation, so that they could become richer. The pollution comes from products for clothing that are made cheaply as possible - at the cost of the environment - and extreme amounts of ad campaigns that purposefully change contemporary fashion ideals in order to keep fast turnaround on product and maximize profit so that they can become richer. Agriculture is corrupted by the rich so that it gets government subsidies in addition to maximizing profits by basing crop choice on profitability instead of sustainability, disregarding native species and planting unfathomably large fields of monocultures, squeezing the farmers themselves and funneling all the money to agri-business execs, i.e. they can become richer. Then they run ad campaigns saying 'everyone needs to do their part to save the environment!' which is clearly bullshit when the system itself is made to maximize profit, and not to maximize caring for the earth. Polluting the earth is profitable, and the profits flow ever upward.
