Canada 'sleepwalking' into cashless society, consumer advocates warn
  • That outage had nothing to do with Canadian infrastructure. It was caused by a maintenance upgrade that Rogers was doing.

Unless you're saying everyone should have backup internet connections. I'd be surprised to learn if any country has that. Given the size of Canada, that's a lot of work to get that in place.

  • Ford government closing Ontario Science Centre today after report found roof in danger of collapsing
  • "Ontario’s auditor general said in December that “deferred maintenance projects that were at risk of critical failure have been repeatedly denied funding” at the science centre, including 42 such project since 2017, the year before the Ford government took power."

What a weird way to talk about the lack of funding as it relates to the government. So the 42 started the year before Ford's government took power. How many were before that? The way it's worded, it could be 1 of the 42 or up to 41 of the 42.

  • Elliotte Friedman Reacts to Sheldon Keefe’s Firing | JD Bunkis Podcast
  • I was implying that the lack of secondary scoring shouldn't be that big of a concern when the whole team had trouble scoring. Even their "best" players barely scored. In particular, 1 power play goal is a problem and the bottom six generally aren't part of that.

  • Leafs fans can't believe Keefe's explanation for loss to Bruins | Offside
  • I agree with you for the most part and think the same group of players under a different system and set of coaches could do better.

The one change I will say we definitely need is in net. I like Samsonov overall, but he is too inconsistent and I'm not sure that can be coached out of him. Woll has looked promising, but the guy has injured himself more than once now making/attempting to make saves that didn't look like they should have been that bad.

  • What changes would you like to see before training camp?
  • I don't want to see many changes. There is a need for a new goalie. I would be ok with Samsonov as a #2. I like Woll, but he is definitely too injury prone. They need a defenseman to do what they got Klingberg for. There is no dangerous point shot player on the team. There will definitely be a new coach coming in. Hopefully that works out to be someone that can really work with the team. It is a solid group.

  • John Tavares is trying to give the Leafs everything he has left
  • Tavares unfortunately gets a lot of criticism because of what he's paid. Sure, he gets paid more than he should, but he's still a solid player.

There are little things he does that go without credit like shooting the puck into the offensive zone from the Leafs side of center ice enough to get the team a change, but not enough for icing. He's also good a keeping pressure on in the offensive zone.

  • I'm having serious problems with Omega
  • I have some music and videos shared via NFS and haven't had any problems playing those. Kodi has crashed a fair amount since updating to Omega, once immediately after launching Kodi. A lot of the time it was when playing video from YouTube and I've updated that plugin to a beta version and it's been better so far.

Fwiw, I'm using the flatpak install on Lubuntu

  • GDT - Boston at Toronto - April 27, 8pm EDT - Game 4
  • There's a decent chance. Possibly Keefe's last game too. The rest of the coaching staff can go too.

The "system" the Leafs play is not working and they don't seem capable of adapting. I'm confident many of the players are capable and would do well on another team. We've seen it plenty of times before. I might track how much of the power play the Leafs spend in their own zone on the power play next game waiting for the perfect opportunity to break out/in and then failing to do so.

  • Game One in Bawston
  • Rough game. Boston definitely outplayed Toronto. However, there were also some penalties called against Toronto and equivalent plays missed/not called when Boston should have gotten a penalty. Here's hoping for a better game 2
