  • That user seems quite active, you can probably check their profile and chime in on a few threads

  • Some or all posts are invisile in certain frontends
  • Sorry for that. You have to use this checklist and keep Ctrl pressed while clicking on the languages you wish (in this case probably both "Undetermined" and "English")

Sorry about this, it's been an issue a while ago, we thought it was fixed, but seems it's back again for some reason. We are investigating: https://lemmy.dbzer0.com/post/37256522

  • Randomly found this on Reddit
  • Oh indeed, but usually it's on /r/RedditAlternatives so I have no idea what the person I'm talking to is like

Also that way my message can work for lurkers too

  • Lemmy.world does not load comments sometimes
  • Could you please check your account comment on the Web interface, and see if you have "Undetermined", "English" and all the other languages you speak selected?

  • PSA for instance admins: new joiners are not shown posts in all languages. Please pin posts about this potential issue, or find another way to explain it to them
  • Easiest is probably a checkbox selected by default "All languages"

    • if it's checked, the languages selection is greyed out
    • if you uncheck, you can start selecting
  • Lemmy.world does not load comments sometimes
  • FYI, your comment is tagged as "Deutsch", I had to add that language to see it.

You might want to select "Undetermined" and "English" as well in your account settings

  • Do you allow transphobic mods?
  • Yes, I have the same info ha ha. Glad indeed!

  • Some or all posts are invisile in certain frontends
  • There's probably a confusion between what the default languages of the instances are and what languages are selected for new joiners.

I opened a thread on !growthefediverse@slrpnk.net to discuss this.

  • PSA for instance admins: new joiners are not shown posts in all languages. Please pin posts about this potential issue, or find another way to explain it to them
  • It's really messy, especially with the new wave of people coming here. Lemmy made good progress since the last wave, but this should really be addressed.

  • Do you allow transphobic mods?
  • confirming that if the mod in question deleted the reports, they probably wouldn’t reach the admin level.

That's my guess, I've never been admin, and I know the feature was reworked at some point, so not completely sure about that.

Seems like new joiners don't automatically get all the languages displayed, as it used to be. For Jlai.lu, they only had French. Is this something that can be configured admin-side?

Update: a fix should be available in the coming days

  • Language settings, make sure to have "Undetermined", "English" and all the other languages you speak correctly selected at the same time in your account settings.

@db0@lemmy.dbzer0.com, can the language configuration for new joiners be modified at the instance level?

  • Do you allow transphobic mods?
  • They already posted on !fediverse@lemmy.world asking for a new instance, so I guess they know that lemm.ee won't allow it.

Just checked, from the sidebar "No bigotry"

How are network carriers still so critical when choosing a phone in the USA? Seems to be a unique situation compared to other markets

I was reading a bit about different phones, and one point that comes up a lot from USA commenters is that people cannot just use any phone they want, it needs to be a specific model supporting their network carrier, especially the network bands.

I live in Europe, this is pretty unknown here, and from what I gather, Asian buyers are also free to use any phone they want.

How come that nothing has ever been made to improve that situation?

Brainstorming: how should we name a Lemmy community dedicated to the promotion of the Fediverse?

    Hello everyone,

@spaduf@slrpnk.net created !growthefediverse@slrpnk.net to synchronize efforts to promote the Fediverse on existing social media (e.g. that Reddit thread on /r/Technology which got a few people joining Lemmy)

Spaduf wasn't aware of the existence of !fedigrow@lemm.ee , which is an existing community focused on the internal growt on the Fediverse, mostly between mods and regular posters trying to make Lemmy/Mbin/Piefed communitied grow.

To avoid confusion between the two communities, we are thinking about a potential new community to replace !growthefediverse@slrpnk.net, but with a different name.

Potential options we came up with:

    • !fedimigration@slrpnk.net
    • !fediversesupport@slrpnk.net

What do you all think? Do you have any other ideas for the name of that new community?

Edit to clarify as it seems it wasn't as obvious in the post: the objective is to keep !fedigrow@lemm.ee with its current focus: growth of communities already here (so more internal), while the new community would be about advocacy and promotion of the Fediverse on other places (so more external).

Having two communities seems better as people busy with keeping their communities active aren't automatically interested in promoting the Fediverse externally, and vice versa.

(Minor) Post asking for feedback on potential slowness on LW (where 36% of the Lemmy users are located) is removed from !asklemmy@lemmy.world as a "support question"

Okay, this is definitely a minor case, but probably still worth reporting.

Modlog is here, 17 hours ago: https://lemmy.world/modlog/3106

    !

Link to the post content reposted on !fediverse@lemmy.world: https://lemmyverse.link/lemmy.dbzer0.com/post/36299751

That question is useful for most of the people, as LW hosts 36% of the users base, and most of the active communities (https://lemmyverse.net/communities?order=active). Removing it as a support question seems questionable.

The most curious thing is that I investigated a bit, as LW still allows to show which mod performed which action (that how things worked in 0.19.3), and that removal has been performed by a mod that literally hasn't performed any action in 6 months: https://lemmy.world/modlog?page=1&modId=45389

    !

Not wanting to put a tinfoil hat, but it's still curious to me that that specific mod came out from a 5-months inactivity just to remove that one post highlighting potential issues with LW.

    What do you all think?
