  • Colors are good, but it feels like the pocket watch chain is over-doing it. Don't cross that line between dressing up, and playing dress ups / cosplaying. Just use a nice wrist watch. Metal or leather band.

  • Preferential voting is a far superior system.

For those unfamiliar, here's an example:

If you like a minor party, say, the Green party, hate another minor party, say, Libertarian, more than you hate the Republicans and would settle for Democrats if you had to, then your vote would look like:

    1. Green
    2. Democrat
    3. Republican
    4. Libertarian

And if your (1) Green candidate didn't have enough votes to win outright, and no-one else did either, then your vote would go to the (2) democrat, who has all the (1) democrat and (2) democrat votes added together. If the democrat didn't have enough votes to win, then it would go to the Republican.

This is simplified, but should be enough to give the idea of how your vote always matters, and allows a better variety of ideas to flourish.

ALSO: post-election, say the democrats won, but only did because they got a lot of second round preferential votes from the Greens voters, that would help convince them that if they want to stay in power, they need to adopt more Green policies.

If parties get elected with no help and just because the other option is orange meltdown, it does little to encourage improvement. All they have to be is better than the other side (who lies all the time anyway, making "better" appear more subjective than objective).

How to help fix voting in the USA:

    • Preferential voting
    • Nonpartisan government body to create voting districts (remove Gerrymandering completely)
    • Fix the money: Caps on political donations. Full transparencies on all political donations and spending. Corporations aren't people.
    • Standardised ballots
    • Disband the electoral college
    • Change the size of the house/senate

Even some of the best countries' voting methods are being constantly tweaked and improved. Nothing is perfect, but it's an embarrassment how far behind the USA is.

  • You need to learn how the electoral system works in the USA.

For your desire to be that in reality, the USA needs to switch to a preferential voting system. Then your vote would never be wasted.

As it is, your vote isn't spent, it's wasted. It's the same as not voting, but with extra steps. Which is a shame, because (some) 3rd parties are really worth voting for.

EDIT: some areas in the USA are slowly changing to preferential systems. So... 🤷

  • Hasn't Poland's government been ultra-right wing the last long while too? The whole anti-gay thing there has been dark.

(I'm only meaning: I can understand why the propaganda in Poland is like that. I agree - it's all a bunch of bullshit)

  • That intuitively seems important for defining the ratio needed to achieve herd immunity

Sure, if you ignore everything and anything about the viruses themselves. Like incubation time, ability to survive outside of hosts and so on and so forth.

Everything you're talking about is absolute garbage.

Every source I've looked at says that the US as a whole has not reached herd immunity

Which isn't relevant to what numbnuts said.

his comment about vaccines still allowing the spread of disease. He isn't saying that the vaccines aren't effective

But he's implying it. He's spreading right-wing anti-science propaganda verbatim. This is the same copypasta they've been spreading for years. It has the thinnest varnish of plausibility, but really, it's complete bullshit.

    Vaccines aren't a silver bullet

They absolutely are, but that doesn't make them the magical forcefield that those maga lovers insist they be.

A vaccine just has to make us be able to reduce the ability of a virus to spread to below a certain point, and we win. It just takes longer. But Mr. Needs-Ritalin-Cocain-and-Caffeine-in-the-morning can't wait that long, so it fails. I mean, the least effective vaccines we came up with at the start were far more than enough to "win".

Oh, and by the by, it's these assholes who are why we have freaking whooping cough and measles back. We almost wiped them out, but no, the little death worshippers want to bring us back to the dark ages.
