We had point to point internet for years. Then they went belly up. Which is why we have starlink today.

Yes, and that's the problem. Fibre should be treated the same way as electric and, formerly, landline phones. For the last 20-30+ years, the government has handed billions out to connect everyone. With very little movement in a LOT of places.

I mean, tbf, all the big telecoms have received billions over the last 20+ years to "connect rural America". A lot of us still don't have access to alternatives.

My kids are just winding down a 'first week of school party' at our house. I'm not sure how many teens we peaked at... Around 12 14-17 yr olds. This is a semi constant around here, roughly 1-2x a month for most of the year. I'm sure at some point it'll happen without us here.

This assumes you have cell access. Not everywhere in the world does.

We were/are always just honest with our kids. No, we don't think there's a god/goddess/whatever. When we/grandma/grandpa/whoever dies, they're just gone. Nobody knows where the universe/world comes from. As far as anyone knows it's several billion years old. Explain the big bang as best as we know it. Etc.

There's no 'right' way for so many things when it comes to kids. Ours know that many people believe in a god. We don't. That's ok.

The 'litter boxes in the bathrooms' continues to come up, like clockwork every few months. It's absurd. As fucking if anyone has ever actually put a litter box in a bathroom in a gods damned school.

The level of overall 'civic engagement ' on Lemmy has been pretty great.

Yeah, the growth of world, ml, beehaw, and Lemmy in general over the last month is pretty incredible. I'm on five instances. And they've all grown incredibly.

Eh, I wound up with a YouTube premium subscription years ago when I subscribed to Google play music, way back when it was YouTube Red. I cannot imagine going without at this point. It became YouTube music at some point, and... Yeah.

Right? After years of feeling like the only pro-firefox person left on the planet, the pro Firefox sentiment lately is a breath of fresh air, to say the least.
