No, they're not the same.
Tor browser gives you ANONYMITY, which is not the same as privacy.
What is Anonymity ? Why is it Important ? http://blog.nowherejezfoltodf4jiyl6r56jnzintap5vyjlia7fkirfsnfizflqd.onion/opsec/anonymityexplained/index.html
Why isn't privacy enough for anonymous use?
http://blog.nowherejezfoltodf4jiyl6r56jnzintap5vyjlia7fkirfsnfizflqd.onion/opsec/anonuse/index.html
(BTW stock Firefox is not even private at all)
https://blog.torproject.org/tor-is-still-safe/
Tor is still alive and well I promise
It is not perfect but it is by far the best thing we have. If it's legal for you to use you should be doing so.
For sensitive operations you should take further steps (follow the blog) like properly setting up your device, and connecting via a network not connected to you
That's not quite true, although technically in this case you would be pseudononymous.
You can use Lemmy at opsec level 4-5:
http://blog.nowherejezfoltodf4jiyl6r56jnzintap5vyjlia7fkirfsnfizflqd.onion/opsec/index.html
Register an email over tor browser, use that to verify a Lemmy account over tor browser, only ever access over tor browser. Be mindful of what you say and post.
On graphene you can also install always-on orbot/invizible in a seperate profile or private space and use apps like Voyager
Note: some instances like.world block tor users.
dbzer0, Lem.ee, and mander.xyz I know are cool with it

Yeah I consider getting a silent.link esim paid with monero every now and then but I feel a lot better leaving it in perma airplane mode and not interacting with cell towers/stingrays at all.
I could buy a sim with cash as well but if I wanted to maintain opsec I'd have to travel to another city every time I turn it on and that's too much work for me atm
I don't, I use public WiFi and plan more. I use open street maps offline and have music etc. Saved locally
It seemed daunting at first but now it's just a way of life for me
Anyone know if it's possible to view this feed in voyager?
Thanks
A revolution without guns?
I had the same thing happen (50501.chat) I answered all their questions and got denied.
Considering their situation it's an odd behavior
I've made tons of Lemmy accounts with no issue on different instances
+1 for simplex
It is real on pc, veracrypt hidden partition.
I think it only is truly deniable with a HDD
Opsec level 3:Deniability
http://blog.nowherejezfoltodf4jiyl6r56jnzintap5vyjlia7fkirfsnfizflqd.onion/opsec/index.html
(Note:. onion links should be viewed with tor browser)
You can do this on pc with veracrypt hidden partition.
On desktop/laptop I think it only is truly deniable with a HDD. Not sure about phone storage forensics but a Linux phone possibly could work for this. Might try for fun at some point

Graphene OS / no Google account / no sim / perma airplane mode here
I also try to only install FOSS software and keep it minimal
A good option is backing up your data, encrypting it, then uploading to a server you can retrieve it from once you've crossed
Setting up some stuff might look less sus than a freshly wiped device though
Hi, this is really important and has a real and practical solution: ANONYMITY / OPSEC!
for Lemmy this means registering an account over tor, with email made over Tor (like onionmail.org) and only ever use it over tor. Note that some instances like Lemmy.world won't allow this. Dbzer0 or lem.ee are good bets
It requires learning how this stuff works but it is so worth it. Do not let them intimidate you into censoring yourself, learn to use technology to your benefit so you don't have to second guess yourself or be afraid to resist.
I recommend using Tor Browser if you want a quick and easy solution or Whonix if you're technically inclined/willing to learn/want a full anonymous OS instead of just a browser
I'm considering making a detailed guide for Lemmy resistors but these are great resources to get you started

^ can only be accessed over tor
If anyone needs help please don't hesitate to reach out to me
