petition: Defederate any instances that federates with threads proactivly , add threads.net on blocklists everywhere.
  • @noodles @ModdedPhones Currently #threads does not make use of ActivityPub. Apparently there was not enough time to implement it in time for its scheduled release. That much said, I have put a preemptive block on threads.net so when it does go live, I won't forget.

  • Last Week in the Fediverse - ep 24
  • @maegul @fediversereport @fediverse You should try flea spotting a black kitty. Talk about near impossible.

  • Any Discord fediverse alternative???
  • @hendrik @zexu I believe that Rochko (spelling?) foresaw his software being run on many small instances versus several large players. Hence that is why I think scalability wasn't an emphasis at the time. From the little I understand of Ruby is that it doesn't scale very well. I think the idea behind Sidekiq is to mitigate that problem.

  • Interesting difference from Reddit: Upvotes/Downvotes are not anonymous
  • @interdimensionalmeme @o_o Agreed! Your voting history will help others gauge how objective (or not) you are.

  • Please make captchas a default in 0.18
  • @kevincox @fubo I've tried actually shunting the bots into a queue that basically sets the TCP receive window to 1. You're quite correct, the bots just spawn off more processes.

  • Lemmy and the Fediverse - Growth questions/concerns
  • @MentalEdge @homesnatch Therein lies the inherent risk of using social media. You must assume that once the genie is out of the bottle, there's no stuffing it back in there and corking it. I'm probably on some watch list by a few 3 letter agencies because I am pretty outspoken about my views and they run very contrary to the accepted establishment ones. I don't drink the capitalist lemonade, I don't support cops, and I criticize government.

  • How is Lemmy going to make money?
  • @dessalines @honk I'm all about donating to the indy software developer. As a thank you for the quality product, I gave 40 bucks to the developer of NGINX Proxy Manager. It's truly a project above commercial quality.

  • What service/site would you like to see a fedi version of?
  • @gredo @NeonPayload I can see this being a good thing. I don't mind seeing ads so long as I'm not being tracked or shown targeted ones.

  • Do your part, try not to lurk!
  • @BoringToMyself @bitsplease Absolutely! The best way to get folks moved is through creation of their favorite subs in the #fediverse. Show them a viable alternative exists, runs mostly well, and they'll trickle in.

  • Do your part, try not to lurk!
  • @CybrRunnr @bitsplease In my case, reddit is only useful to me as a means to exchange technology information, ideas, and support. Well, I do enjoy the anti-capitalist and anarchy related subs. But even in those subs there can be snark and cyberbullying. The decentralized nature of the fediverse does make bullying harder because all somebody needs to do is change instances to hide.

  • Do your part, try not to lurk!
  • @csolisr @bitsplease In my mind it counts as participation and not simply lurking. Yes!

  • Do your part, try not to lurk!
  • @BarneyKB @bitsplease It's very exciting!!! I'm just going to hold off a little bit until it gets to the early beta stage before standing up my own instance. That much said, I'm enthusiastically cheering the #lemmy devs on. Lemmy has good bones and a good plan of attack. I expect it only to improve.

  • Reddit perma-banning account promoting Lemmy has Streisand effect
  • @responseAIbot @humanetech I now have my next project: Lemmy. Going to start on it this afternoon.
